A bias study with one side represented.

Conservatives have alleged thus far without evidence that Facebook has shown a bias against conservative groups or censored their content.
To address this, Facebook announced Wednesday that it was bringing in two major conservative players to evaluate whether Facebook displays a liberal bias.
The oversight effort, dubbed a conservative bias advising partnership by Axios, which first reported the arrangement on Wednesday, will involve former Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ), who was minority whip, as well as the Heritage Foundation, the right-wing think tank. Kyl, along with the lobbying firm he joined after leaving the Senate, Covington and Burling, will look at claims of liberal bias internally and on Facebooks services, get feedback from conservative groups, and advise Facebook on how to work with these groups. Kyl will will examine concerns about alleged liberal bias on Facebook, internally and on our services. He will get feedback directly from conservative groups and advise us on the best path forward, according to a statement from Facebook. The Heritage Foundation will convene meetings on these issues with Facebook executives, Axios reported.
Facebooks bias study, according to Facebook, will not include any liberals. A Facebook spokesperson did not answer a question about whether there would be any visibility into conduct of the bias study for publications or groups that are not conservative.
A reminder of what happened the last time Facebook combated liberal bias...

Facebook has repeatedly trended fake news since firing its human editors.

Im not at all surprised how many fake stories have trended, one former member of the team that used to oversee Trending told the Post. It was beyond predictable by anyone who spent time with the actual functionality of the product, not just the code. (The team member, who had signed a nondisclosure agreement with Facebook, spoke on the condition of anonymity.)

(100,063 posts)Hate speech definitely has a conservative bias to it. If Facebook were to stop banning conservatives, they'd have to reverse their hate speech policies - and that could have serious consequences.

(14,173 posts)So let me get this straight:
Conservatives worked with Russia to spread fake news about Hillary Clinton using Face Book. Littering millions of accounts with disgusting memes and diabolical conspiracy theories about her. Apparently freely and easily.
And now they claim there is a liberal bias, and want to clamp down it? And this bias is so pervasive that to counter it they can't even have a liberal in on the study to help answer any issues they bring up because just having a dirty liberal in the room would be a detriment?

(11,730 posts)That is just a simple fact. Life is about growth, learning, and advancement. The learn and grow, you have to be open to new ideas. Most people are at least partially open to new ideas.
Conservatives cannot win on the strength of their ideas so they have to resort to "working the refs" which they have learned to do very well unfortunately. Conservative ideas are just not appealing over the long term so they complain that they are not being given a fair shake, which is especially galling because in terms of media, there are many more specifically conservative outlet, that often coordinate the same message. There is a mainstream, corporate media which tries to present information that appears unbiased but which is typically geared toward depictions of conflict that will increase circulation, clicks, or ratings for advertisement revenue. Then there is a smaller uncoordinated left leaning media presence which is typically as popular because liberals tend to get their media from more than one source unlike conservatives.
That Facebook is actually entertaining this stupidity shows how cowed everyone is by the right wingers tactics.

(56,828 posts)Facebook had a panel of editors that were going to review the news posted on Facebook for accuracy. Right Wingers got all up in arms because one person on the panel was a Democrat - one person! Because of the controversy, Facebook disbanded the group and the news (aka Bullshit) was allowed to fly fast and free.

(16,936 posts)It is a customizing browser extension you can download for free. Using it, you can limit the content on your facebook page, such as excluding games, ads and content you don't want. I don't see many things I don't want to see.
We've used it for years and love it. Facebook hates it.
I have conservative friends. I've blocked some of them because of their comments. Others post memes or comments from conservative sites and I block the sites. I have a built-in liberal bias and I don't want to see fake news from ignorant jerks. Is it possible that people like me who proactively block or hide conservative sites are affecting the number of views the precious dewdrops get?
How is Facebook going to deal with people like me who make a concerted effort to avoid BS that I don't want to see?
