Were talking about building roads and bridges for Christs sake. Were not talking about big Democratic and Republican initiatives. ... I think [it is] an embarrassment to the House of Representatives, he railed. But more than being an embarrassment to the House of Representatives, it was indicative of the fact that people are more interested in fighting with each other than they are in getting the no-brainers done and governing.

You know what? Fuck you, LaTourette. You and your GOP pals spent 40 fucking years demagoguing about how "govt is the problem" and "low taxes are always the answer," and signing loyalty pledges to Grover Fucking Norquist, the McCarthy of Taxation.
And you won, you assholes. You won so big that now even Democrats are ambivalent on the idea that taxes and govt might be useful after all. So now millions of average voters and tea-party congresspeople are to rabidly anti-govt and anti-tax that yes, you can't fucking pass a bill to maintain roads or sewers, even when borrowing is basically free and we have 8% unemployment with people who would love to be put to work fixing all of our shit.
If that's a bitter pill for you LaTourette, well fuck you. You earned it.

Democrats and Republicans versus the Tea Party.

(20,814 posts)and he used to be one of those anti-government obstructionists he now oh-so-conveniently derides and deplores. Prior to being in Congress, he was my former county's prosecutor for several terms. During that time, he barely knew the meaning of "due process" and the law. Consequently, he had the dubious distinction of being the prosecutor in the state with the highest number of convictions overturned by the appeals and supreme court, largely because he WOULD NOT FOLLOW due process and the law. And this is the smallest county in the state, with eighty-eight other counties.
His big "claim to fame" that took him to congress was prosecuting Jeffrey Lundgren and members of his cult for the murders of the Avery family. Which in itself was no big accomplishment, because Lundgren, in addition to being a sociopathic nutball killer/cult leader, was a dumb fucker who left enough clues and evidence behind so that a kindergartner could have figured the case out. A fucking ham sandwich could have gotten that conviction.
And he was one of the hypocritical idiots who voted both to spend federal money on the investigation of Clinton, and to impeach Clinton for the whole Lewinsky horseshit, when, at the same time, he was screwing a lobbyist whom he then left his wife for. And he did it in such a disgusting way; he simply called his wife at their home in Ohio, from D.C., and said he was involved with someone else whom he was going to marry, and that he was divorcing her. When she, understandably distraught, asked him to at least consider counseling, he said he would and they'd talk later. A few days later, he called her up again and said, forget it, it's over, goodbye. He wouldn't even tell their minor children, the children she stayed behind to care for; he left it up to her to do his dirty work. The ink was barely dry on their divorce before he married the much-younger lobbyist bitch, who had appeared before him while he was on the committee dealing with her lobbying area, and he'd subsequently voted in favor of awarding money/contract to the firm she was lobbying for.
They'd been involved during that whole time, but he hadn't disclosed that relationship. But because he was a repub, he, of course, got away with it. The local republican rag didn't even print anything about it and shut down any letters or columns about it. But, of course, it was all over Clinton. What was especially hypocritical was that he was yammering on and on about how immoral Clinton was and a bad example and disgusting person, etc., demanding details from the Starr report, etc., etc. Yet, he'd get angry when anyone questioned him on his own domestic situation, saying it was, and I quote "a private matter, none of your business." FUCK. YOU., you hypocritical moron.
He was anti-gubmint before it was cool, yet he's spent almost his entire fucking useless career sucking from the taxpayer's teat.

(52 posts)The republicans will come out as the "party in the center" and Dems and Tea baggers will be the left and right wing parties. It's actually a clever move by the repubs.

I'm not going to read any more of this thread, cause can't stand to see Dems (DUers) who don't recognize a gift when we receive it.
Thanks, randome.

(4,113 posts)Unlike some of these other goofs in the Ohio delegation, like Boehner, Jordan, Schmidt and the like, who just want to be obstructionists just because the President's party is not the same as theirs.
Funny how deficits didn't matter to these clowns when Bush was president.

It's like reverse psychology. If Obama says that roads and bridges are helpful then the Repubs start refusing to build them.
Obama: "Roads and bridges...you didn't build that."
GOP: "not anymore we won't."
