Really! 60% of us can't stop the crazy?

Well, I guess we've learned that "Majority Rule" thing is just more meaningless hot air. -- A fairy tale. -- A pile of folk lore. -- A phony legend. -- Another lie.

A minority of Americans are in control of all the levers of power due to gerrymandering, voter suppression, "lost votes," intimidation, "scrubbing voter roles," etc., and are now in total control of our government. (Sorry. Their government.)

And that's why the majority, 60% of us, can't stop the crazy.

That minority is called the Republican Party. They rule with the votes of less than 40% of Americans. And they have proved themselves totally unfit to rule a democracy.

Perhaps there will be a "Blue Wave" this November and the "absolute power" of the Republicans will come to an end. Or, perhaps there will be no "Blue Wave." And that would put us firmly in the grasp of fascism. And at that point we will understand that it's only the beginning of their total destruction of American democracy.

Why can't 60% of us stop the crazy? Because the Founding Fathers couldn't foresee everything. Because they assumed that the majority of human beings were sane and rational. And due to that belief, they unwittingly built latitude into the Constitution.

So here's my bottom line. The Constitution really has turned into a suicide pact.

It wasn't put there intentionally. But who could have imagined that a criminal party and a madman would attain total power?

In order for the majority to actually prevail, they have to actually register and show up to vote. Not only that, but they must cast their votes for the only viable candidates who oppose the crazy.

And all of that is mathematically possible, I guess. But c'mon.

To the United States. There are more red states than blue states though we have more people because of CA.

It's always been infuriating that the millions in California have two senators, and the dozen or so people who live in Wyoming also have two senators.

I'd appreciate someone putting up a simple explanation on how the senate is tilted toward the minority, and how the house districts have been gerrymandered to keep a minority in power.

Living in Oregon now and have only republican congressman since southern oregon sweeps around the rural part. It would be great to kick him out but Ashland only blue city.

I think if they had any idea it would get like this they would have changed it, there was few people in every state back then.

And CA wasn’t even a state yet!

We lose to the minority....we have we have because people would not support the "lesser of 2 evils" and chose not vote or voted another traitor in Jill stein....and could care less about true evil taking over.

We got what we got..

It's really up to us to convince people of the need to become active participants. And what I mean by that is going to the polling places and taking action there. If we can't do that, we will surely lose.

It's not enough to bemoan our unwillingness to become active. That will accomplish nothing. Instead, we need to get out there and convince the apathetic and unwilling to actually vote for things that benefit them.

I see a lot of lip service to this idea. I've been seeing it for over 50 years now. What I'm not seeing, however, is the willingness on the part of us who see the problem to get out an get the job done. Instead, too many of us just sit around and complain.

If we continue to just do that, we will continue to lose to the minority.

We can fix that, but only if we take action to do so. We won't accomplish it here on DU. It has to be done in the places we live, starting with our own neighbors. It takes actual work.

I'm less and less optimistic about our willingness to do that.
