(37,648 posts)It only became risky that she'd talk, because he was a Presidential candidate? Doesn't wash, really. But that's what they could say.

(14,249 posts)If the payment has any relationship to his candidacy, it's an illegal campaign contribution if it wasn't paid back and a violation of FEC reporting laws if it was paid back but not reported.
That's why they're using the bogus "he was trying to protect his family" claim.
Of course, he didn't seem too worried about his family when he was bragging about grabbing women by their ladyparts and he didn't feel the need to protect his family by paying off any the women who said he'd assaulted them.

(37,648 posts)Which is good, because we KNOW it was to keep her quiet for the election and his Presidency.

(9,895 posts)No matter how the shitgibbon spins this, he is guilty of illegal contributions to his campaign, but more importantly of a series of lies that he is simply too stupid to remember all of them to stay our of jail...Fuck you little Donnie
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)The bad thing about the illegal contribution charge is that many people don't view that as a very important law, thinking that they all do questionable things with those campaign contributions.

I suspect he's dangling that to keep them occupied like a kitten chasing a laser light while he compiles a solid case on some pretty serious federal felonies.

(53,061 posts)If it is a relatively pedestrian mistake no one cares.
If it us an intentional effort to make a contribution and conceal it AND it might have had an impact on the election they take it very seriously.

(8,445 posts)I was all on board for him. I was pretty angry when I found out what a scumbag he really is.
I'm hoping when the undeniable truth comes out about 45, his followers will take it the way that I took the truth about Edwards. But it's a lot easier to live in denial, I suppose.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)Not sure why charges weren't pressed against Edwards. There was a difference there. The gf was on the payroll, and had been. That's how he met her.
So Cohen/Trump could technically have violated the law, but people won't care. It depends on how it was done, and why. Depends on where the money came from. This mob launders money like other people drink water.

(19,192 posts)was seen - on FOX, at least - as a brilliant legal move. "America's Mayor" was now on the case. The Trumptards could rest easy now, Rudy was on the job!
Trump deserves Ghouliani, and vice-versa.

The payment was made to resolve a personal and false allegation in order to protect the presidents family, Giuliani said in a statement released Friday. It would have been done in any event, whether he was a candidate or not. Really? Let's test this most recent claim...

For over 9 yrs after the end of the affair - 2007, 08, 09, 10, 11 (In Touch), 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 (Jan-Sept) - Mr. Trump had a family. And yet no payment was ever made to "protect them." Then, two weeks before the election, the payment was suddenly made. #WeAreNotStupid #basta

(42,541 posts)You know, somewhere they could report the threats and 'false allegations' so the person demanding money would be investigated and charged with a crime rather than paying them off for absolutely no reason at all. If only.

(14,169 posts)It does seem to be what it all boils down to for them.
Either they just don't care they are being screwed, or they just ignore that part of it. It seems that watching their more liberal neighbors look ashen faced and sick about things is the main reward for sticking with Trump.

(7,402 posts)That he misspoke because of a difference between his understanding and Trump's knowledge. How can that be? The most logical is that Trump misinformed Rudy. Too late for floating trial balloons. That leaves Trump lying to his own attorney then sending him out with a false narrative to dump on the American people.
