NASCAR

I turned it on for the Bristol race a couple weeks back. It was in a rain delay. During the rain delay I saw the NRA logo prominently displayed at the track. Then a shot of a car with Liberty University as an associate sponsor. A little later they were interviewing the driver of the K-Love sponsored car. I suppose next we will here Nugent and his half-assed ripoff of Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner.

My wife asked me if I wanted to go out to eat. I said, Let's go." amd I turned the damned thing off.

I knew they leaned far to the right for many years but this is ridiculous.

The inbred grandson Brian France has turned a series I once watched regularly onto a series where they have to give tickets away. Bristol, a place that used to sell out months in advance was half empty, and this was before the rain fell. The Car of Tomorrow (or is it the car of the day after tomorrow), boogity boogity boogity, stage racing and I had enough. The hard right sponsorship trend makes it even more so.

My short take (I have lots more) on Liberty's expansion - post #8
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=10579297

Liberty's online degree mill (and debt financing) is spreading like wildfire especially here in Va.

The Richmond raceway which used to sell out in minutes has taken all the seats out of the backstretch and one of the turns. They also are in the process of turning the infield into a party zone. That won't be completed until next year's spring race (I think). The trailers now drop off the cars and the equipment and park outside the raceway. Fans can walk through the garage - which has been completely refigured) to watch the crews. A VIP section will eventually be in the infield on a raised platform so they can see the race. A standing only section is going into th last turn and there is a $5k a week RV section in ththe infield. They are trying everything they can. I'm not sure if the race a few weeks ago "sold out" - getting rid of almost half the seats had to make that closer to a reality.

When Sprint was the big sponsor they didn't even put WiFi in the raceways so fans could sit there and watch it live OR sit at home and watch it and have data and crew radio coming through their laptops or tablets. Why GO to the race?

The "couch problem" NASCAR is going through dwarfs the problems the NFL is having.
