McCain is organizing his funeral. Trump will not be invited

Sen. John McCain loathes President Trump so much that he plans to diss him from beyond the grave.

The ailing Arizona Republican, who has brain cancer, is organizing his funeral – and close associates have told the White House that Trump will not be invited.

Instead, Vice President Mike Pence, who served with McCain in Congress, will be asked to attend the service, the New York Times reported Saturday. The ceremony will be held at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

A stream of politicians, including former Vice President Joe Biden and former Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, have been visiting McCain at his Arizona ranch and a nearby hospital in recent weeks.

McCain recently wrote a memoir, "The Restless Wave," which will be released later this month. In it and a forthcoming documentary, McCain expresses his regret over not choosing former Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman as his vice presidential running mate when he ran for the presidency in 2008, the Times reported. McCain's running mate in the 2008 presidential campaign was then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Yeah, I know - Lieberman, ick. But he's just awful in a normal way, not Tea Party, proto-Trump-ish awful like Palin. And Al Gore did pick him (which I never understood).

Whether this means she won't be invited, or might decide not to go so she can keep an eye on her dysfunctional, criminal and probably meth-addled family, is hard to say. Since she has gone full-on Trump, she might decide to stay home and whine on Twitter.

Trump is such a boor, such a social oaf, that no person of dignity would want him at a major life event -- funeral or otherwise -- unless you are trying to gratify him because you want something from him. Dead people don't want anything from anyone, and McCain's family doesn't need anything Trump can provide. Even if McCain is doing it because he's a vindictive, grudge-holding SOB, it's also an eminently rational decision.

tell people who trusted him that the ACA COULDN'T work, had to fail, and needed to be repealed because it was killing people? I've watched him lie like a classic Republican rug myself.

Or that America needed to "get off the backs of business" because that would result in more jobs and higher incomes? Never a word about the many ways that meant dismantling regulations specifically written to stop business from hurting them? The list of his betrayals of his is as long as his time in government.

I trust the Obamas to promote healing and repair of our broken center. If they're invited, and I imagine they will be, they'll go, but with their eyes as open as always and no illusions.
