Glad to see these terms are embraced here, I'll be sure to use them often... What? if you are not a cracker then don't be offended.
Redneck
Usually an insult to rural people or Southerners.
Hillbilly
Usually used to describe rural people or Southerners. It originated as a term for farmers living in The Appalachian Mountains.
Honky also spelled "honkey" or "honkie"
(U.S., NZ) a white person. Derived from an African American pronunciation of "hunky", the disparaging term for a Hungarian laborer. The first record of its use as an insulting term for a white person dates from the 1950s.[86] In New Zealand honky is used by Māori to describe New Zealanders of European descent.
White Trash
Originally an insult for poor white Southerners.
Trailer Trash
An insult to describe a mainly white population stereotyped to live in trailer parks.
Hick
An insult to describe poor white people.
Bumpkin, Country Bumpkin, and Hillbilly Bumpkin
An insult to describe poor rural white people mainly those who share a rural or southern lifestyle.
Good ol' boy
A term used to describe Southerners, especially white, powerful people and their networks.
Peckerwood
In the 1940s, the abbreviated version "wood" entered California prison slang, originally meaning an Okie mainly from the San Joaquin Valley. This has caused the symbol of the woodpecker to be used by white power skinheads and other pro-white groups. It is used as a slur against southerners today.
Whitey
a term for a Caucasian.

PS: don't scroll up or down on the Wikipedia page, you may be offended.

(22,315 posts)They're also almost all aimed at poor people -- specifically poor white people, but still, people with white privilege but lacking economic privilege. A slur against a hegemonic power is a tool of resistance; a slur against an oppressed minority is a tool that is meant to keep that minority oppressed, although it loses its power when co-opted.

(4,322 posts)"Biscuit eater."
All tenses. "Biscuit eating motherfucker" could be used as well.
When I was in the military (1980's), that was a pejorative for a white conservative. Similar to "Redneck" but with a more derisive, condescending tone. "Redneck" is marginally descriptive. Calling someone a "biscuit eater" shows contempt.

(61,691 posts)"Biscuit" is also a cookie in British culture. Was it originally an insult to Brits?

(23,336 posts)Similar to one of my favorite breakfast dishes, "Shit on a Shingle" or "SOS", chipped beef on toast, with some kind of white gravy.
Either one can clog up an artery very efficiently.
Now, for a bit of music which does nothing to explain the term "Biscuit Eater":

(36,408 posts)Interesting, there was a popular short story titled The Biscuit Eater, about a perceived worthless hunting dog that turned out to be a champ. It was made into a movie in 1940, and I understand Disney even did a remake of it in 1972.
by James H. Street
Lonnie, and his friend Text, spend their days in the streams and woods of Mississippi poking sticks in doodlebug holes, looking for crawdad castles, and catching sweet stinker bugs for good luck, All the while they keenly observe Lonnie's father, Harve McNeil, train his champion bird dogs. After all they are born to it boys and bird dogs grow up together. They're hunters. It's in their blood.
When one of the champion dogs has a litter of seven yelping, squirming pups, their dream comes true. They are given a dog of their own to raise and train. They bond instantly, beginning a journey of love and responsibility that hones their skills and challenges their characters. Yet the lineage of the dog is questionable and Lonnie's father wonders if the scrawny, wobbly-legged dog is a biscuit eater an ornery dog that won't hunt anything except his own biscuits; an animal that may have to be destroyed.
After its publication in 1941, The Biscuit Eater rapidly became an American best-seller and was made into a film after the Second World War.

(4,483 posts)what's going on. I've been reading the wypipo posts, and I get that, but what's the reason for posting insulting names white people could be called? Are you suggesting we should become sensitive about these words?

(1,109 posts)Not offended by name calling? Call me anything you like. Just don't call me after 1 am.
I do understand why minorities might get offended by racial slurs. But this whole white people getting offended smacks of tit for tat. "Ok...we wont say these things so henceforth we will decide what you can and cannot say"
I don't now how to describe it any better than that.
It seems to hint at something ugly just under the skin of a lot of people.
I think there are many people of all races who, like me, are not easily offended by labels.
Igel
(35,293 posts)And what's offensive to them.
Oddly, many of those same people also insist on being allowed to decide what others are properly called, and what's offensive to them.
There's a really asymmetric power relationship proposed as normative and ideal in that. If neutral is no name calling, this seeks to replace one set of pejoratives that we disapprove of with a set of righteous pejoratives. We're righteous; they're sinners.

(34,104 posts)misogynistic labels, never by race labels. I figure people who look more like me have been dishing it out for a very long time. I try not to BE those things but I can take it, after all my race has been dishing out insulting labels forever, we have earned these labels. Be less reactive and more understanding and maybe we can get passed this.

(1,109 posts)But I don't know. There is so much righteous indignation from white people on both sides of the political spectrum. "How dare they do the same thing my race has been doing for centuries? Racism is over. We elected a black president. We're good now!"
As if being called a cracker is as bad as having your children gunned down for no reason. Not to mention all the other bullshit POC have to wade thru....

(2,857 posts)My position is that nobody should be calling anyone names at all, no matter what race you are.
I am around racist people ALL THE TIME and I can not even begin to tell you how many times they have told me that black people are perfectly fine with calling whites every name in the book. They use this to justify their racist attitudes when I tell them it isn't ok to be like that. Now I don't feel like I can even correct them in good faith after reading all this crap. It has seriously made me feel like there is no point in even trying stand up to negative attitudes if nothing I do will be as important as my skin color to black people.

Good ole boy is a compliment and I do not consider it to have any negative meaning.
White trash, trailer trash, hick etc are the insults. Often deserved but not always. And these folks are really angry. 50 years ago society considered them superior to people of color. Today they are seen as the lowest segment of society and they are pissed. And since they have less support from government their chances to improve their lot is decreasing.
Luckily they will not vote in numbers like they did in 16.
appalachiablue
(41,113 posts)as their GOP 'champions' continue removing all social safety nets across the board. Govt. and industry won't likely bring any economic growth into their areas to improve matters unless maybe a few prisons.
How long will the negative, toxic behavior by the powers in charge continue in order to hold their interest and votes? MAGA, evil race bating, killing and harassing of blacks and poc, dismantling govt., saber rattling and more.
All of this is supposed to provide 'comfort' to this demographic- dispossessed, mainly white non-college educated, former blue collar workers- despite the obvious, steady and certain decline of their communities, status and way of life. It's a real mess and conditions will remain divisive and ugly until and unless serious change takes place and that will take a miracle. This group will remain out of step, bigoted, likely violent and angry for some time; it's happened in the past a number of times. Depressing scenario.

(11,949 posts)I come from a place where I have seen this in action. The angry, poor, rural whites have little hope for improvement. The kids that get it run like hell to the cities.
And rather than focusing on all these rural folks with few options, we really, really need to get some press to focus in all the kids who move out and do well. Because there are a whole lot of them.
The politicizing of religion is the cause. They will vote for people who destroy their lives if those politicians are against abortion, gays and minoritys.
