He was more off script than on - and the applause he received wasn't rally-like.
A few times it seemed like he was waiting for applause - and there was none.
He had no central theme at all - he was like 20 minutes in and "oh yeah guns..."
All he had to do was 10 minutes of solid 2nd Amendment-isms with some bumpers of "how great I am"- and he's out of there.
Maybe conventioneers are a different demographic than rally-ers? Dare I say - a "smarter" group?
And for TV - this had the same creepy production value that that CPAC had.
I think they must put the media in the back to express their displeasure with them.
The result is - all the camera shots are heavily zoomed - not really lit for TV - and look generally creepy.
And they had the audio feed with an out-of sync delay - that created a weird echo.
They didnt fix that until 2/3 of the way though speech.
Overall - I thought this was one of Trumps weakest moments.
To add testimony - look at this FreeRepublic Thread about the speech...

Barely 40 posts before they start whining about Shepard Smith.
Most Trump speech threads get a something closer to 200 comments over there...this was odd - and at the NRA too!
