I know this is a bit late - but it dawned on me that the beast - Yeti's - are commonly portrayed in folklore as - white.
And part of the folklore of - Russia - among others.
The word Yeti has no meaning relative to color.
YETI - doesn't seem to use any of the folklore imagery in their marketing. Just the word.
But - I have to wonder if they might have realized this relationship was becoming a bit uncomfortable.
Seems like the potential was there for some hidden meaning among NRA members?...perhaps unrealized by the YETI people?
I don't fault YETI - but gotta wonder if there was a bit of a wink-wink here?!

(14,522 posts)Yeti, the brand is known for keeping drinks ice cold. The name is based on that; not because Yeti is white.
It was also because of marketing. I am sure when trying to come up with a name for their product they wanted the consumer to think ice cold. They came up with a list of possibilities. Abominable snowman was to long. Frosty was taken by a famous snowman and Wendy's milkshake.
Yeti conjures up images of cold and ice that doesn't melt. I guess they could have called it glacier or permafrost. but Yeti is quick and easy to say and sounds right.

(4,835 posts)Just good marketing - "cold" is the product.
But - good marketers might also realize the potential for a double entendre among NRA members - as they become more closely aligned with white supremacy...not the best look.

(14,522 posts)should name their product something different because white supremacists might make a loose connection at some point in the future to being white and buy it? What's your opinion on White Out? Queen's White album? Arctic Wear? Toyota Tundra?
How about Blizzard Entertainment? (creator of Warcraft and Diablo) Blizzard = white snow = video games for white supremacists
