Why you should set up Democratic candidates signs in even the reddest areas...

If there are more Democrats' signs up it can help to demoralize the republican't voters and encourage the Democratic voters.

The signs are a very visible way to show the country is in the process of having a "big Blue Wave".

They really do matter.

Just make sure you get plenty of signs and be ready to replace any that are torn down.

What are the odds of being shot over a yard sign?

Just get spares in case some idiot defaces or steals it

We have two more shots at this. 2018 and 2020. It's time to make a stand.
We need to vocalize. OFTEN WHEN YOU ARE BRAVE...others follow suit. Believe in yourselves. Democrats are saving this country. SCREW absolutely, the fear mongering of the gun toting right. Most are cowards. TUNE THEM OUT.
Pick up your sign every day if you're worried. Put some elbow grease into it.
In most areas, stealing political signs is a crime. You have a right to do signs so long as they don't impede traffic and adhere to local sign laws.

There is a bullet lodged in the wall of my kids bedroom...five feet from where he lay sleeping.

Some rednecks out drunk one night, shooting up the stop sign and a stray bullet hits my house. I hear people target practicing at all hours and its terrifying.

Putting anything, especially a political sign in my own yard is just asking for some asshole to shoot at it.

"It's also a good way to get shot..."

So is walking to walk. So is driving to the store. So is watching a movie.

Let's suggest no one do any of that... the courage of one's convictions are a mere trifle anyway when one has many, many prescriptions to write.

I still have my democratic underground sticker on the backbumper. Or should I say what's left of it from wingers' attempts to peel it off. It looks like crap but I leave it on for pride's sake.

politics by bumper sticker.
I used to. Just too many situations (unlike your home) where ugly people can take it out on your car when nobody is looking. Even car repair places. It happens. We need to remain to be kind, trusting, and forgiving. We have to remember to lead by, and set, a good example. BUT, the enemy is the Ugly American, don't set yourself up for heartache on the road. Cars are by definition mobile.
Much easier to put a yard sign in and be able to tend to it. Imho.
Be brave, but be brave wisely. So you don't suffer property damage, or a broken heart.
****It's twice as easy to mean. Being kind requires work. Don't facilitate dim-wits.

The majority of Americans aren’t rabidly political and sometimes vote for a name only because they remember or associate it with their neighborhood.

Not only does it better insure the sign holder will vote after supporting someone, but it's a tangible way of showing that you are informed and aware and unafraid.
Signs are THE key to any race. It shows you are brave.
If you think the sign will get pulled, then put it on the porch, or in your window, or best yet...right in front of your yard camera. The point is, signs reflect true on-the-ground reality about how a candidate is doing. Often their presence can change the radio/tv narrative that says the 'other guy is winning', bc the signs don't lie. I have quite a collection of past winners and losers and am proud to say, I have more of the former, than the latter.
INSIST your Democratic Headquarters get signs, and get them EARLY. They cannot be under estimated. Get two and give one to your parents or a lazy friend. They are absolutely indispensable. When knocking on doors to check for permission, always place the sign where the property owner asks at that moment. That way the sign gets in and you can record where it is. Try at all costs to avoid just leaving a sign w the owner to be placed. Sometimes they don't even post it outside, and if they put it somewhere else, you can't pick it up, or control the message were something untoward come from a signs unwitting 'repurpose."
Democratic candidates should invest in them FIRST.
Never place a sign without permission.
Put them in yards where folks come to a stop. (Stop signs, Red lights). Put them in popular peoples yards. Put up banners between fence posts on highways. It's great exercise to go door to door asking as well. Don't be afraid. (Imagine how afraid we'll all be if this continues?) It's OUR government, if we don't tend to it, greedy people will render it historical.
If you live in a red area...make sure you get more than one. Even if you have to buy a sign, do it please.
It works like this, when people see a sign, they are relieved and feel more confident putting one in as well. It may even encourage a discussion w the neighbor you never dreamt you'd have.
It's gratifying when you put in a sign and the whole street comes up roses (w the same signs.) It happens more than you'd think.
LASTLY, and very importantly...TAKE DOWN YOUR SIGN LATE ELECTION NIGHT! Especially if you win. It shows a grace in winning and that person who you asked to have a sign, may do so again next time bc you cared enough about them to remember where the sign was, and recognized that yard signs come with a price. Even if it has to be moved to mow etc. Appreciate your sign folks. Write down their addresses when you put them in. If you win, thank them. If you didn't, thank them as well. Keep the signs in a nice place to use them next time. Signage is one of the top three things to win.
If your local isn't getting busy getting signs. INSIST in the monthly meeting that they do. Invest in them if they have to be purchased. (Signs should always be free), find a way. The next two elections could turn this canard around.
Time to be unafraid on your own property. Whether owned or leased. Find your voice.

12. How Yard Signs Helped Defeat Roy Moore
Mon May 7, 2018, 03:48 PM
May 2018

I have attended a number of candidate training classes over the years. The conventional wisdom is that yard signs are not that important in most local campaigns. That conventional wisdom may be wrong https://politicalwire.com/2018/02/14/yard-signs-helped-defeat-roy-moore/

Wade Perry, the manager of Doug Jones’ (D) longshot U.S. Senate campaign in Alabama, told McClatchy that “before Jones even won his own primary, and hatched a plan with campaign chairman Giles Perkins. Their realization: the campaign needed to show Republican voters — some of whom hadn’t voted for a Democrat in decades — that it would be OK to support one this time around.”

“And what better way, they thought, than letting the average Alabamian see rows of Jones signs in their neighbors’ yards?”

“Perry himself can scarcely believe he’s talking about them seriously… But the man who managed the most stunning upset in recent Democratic political history has a larger — and much more important — point he wants to make; his party must be willing to try something different with their politics and campaigns, especially as it prepares to compete this November in a litany of Republican-rich areas.”

...where DUers bragged about how many Democratic signs were up and how few Moore signs there were.

The signs definitely boost moral and encourage people to vote sensibly, (for maybe the first time in their lives).

Signs matter, and so do social media postings. There is a propaganda war to be fought. The other side is plenty happy with fear and lies. Our side needs numbers of determined participants.
