That's the key word. It no longer a guarantee that they will hold the chamber next year.

It was assumed last year the Senate could not be in play for the Dems. How things change in a year.

2. Let's get out the vote, and make their fears come true
Mon May 7, 2018, 01:43 PM

Remember, every day that passes - every day - since the inauguration, Republicans have looked at President Trump and made an affirmative decision not to challenge or interfere with him in any way. They would like the Trump administration accepted as a normal part of the American political landscape, not an outlier at all.

Republicans have affirmed this every day for more than a year. They deserve to get their pasty white asses kicked from here to Timbuktu and back (electorally speaking).

Let's give them lots to fear in 2018 and beyond.

I think many Democrats learned important lessons in 2016 about growing up and supporting the candidates the majority select. Let's keep that lesson fresh in everyone's minds.

If we don't win the ball game this time out the country is in really serious trouble. Serious trouble.

If we do win, lets start immediately making the changes needed to return this country, and particularly its government, to a permanent state of sanity and do so without compromise or giving two shits what the wing nuts will say this time around. You can't be bi-partisan with Nazis. Don't forget - we had a Supreme Court vacancy stolen from us with no consequences for the offending party. The party responsible needs to be consigned to the waste bin of history.

It's bad enough vacant land gets more representation than actual citizens and we, who are in the majority, have been grossly under represented in the Senate as well as the House with California f.i. only having as many senators as say, Wyoming. Eventually, we may even be able to admit Puerto Rico as a state and establish a permanent majority.

Well, a guy can dream anyway, and I have a Dream.

13. But we must NOT drop our guard!
Mon May 7, 2018, 05:14 PM
May 2018

Yes it’s tiresome, but we ALL have to stay awake!

I hope I’m just being silly here, but a new CNN poll indicates some of trump’s numbers are rising a little, and his overall approval is at 41%. For me, anyway, anything below the 40% mark is a LOT easier to deal with and WAY preferable. Not to mention more reassuring, that a majority of America is, by sheer numbers, NOT fooled. One would hope that’s how it continues. An upward move (a move, hopefully not a trend) of even a little bit starts making me worry.

Here’s what I’m on guard about, and please let me know if I’m wrong:
I’m starting to notice a trend. There’s a meme spreading about how all the scandals and crimes and suspicions of crimes and dirty dealings and theft and con games have overwhelmed us to such an extreme that we’ve become inured to it. The wounds aren’t fresh anymore. They’ve been healing over, and developing scar tissue and not as hard to ignore and we’re getting used to this.

Seems to me we’ve long ago gotten over any sense of shock about what’s been happening - and has indeed become “the norm.” It’s being normalized. It’s how things have become, and devolved. I hear a LOT about that these days. Until recently, nobody was articulating or identifying this as a problem, or even “a thing”.

Every time Rachel Maddow says “this is where we are”, or other people with a public podium make similar comments, I wince a little. I worry that such a statement can cause or reinforce complacency. You know all the buzz phrases. This is how it is. This is it. It is what it is. This is us. Well, this sure as heck IS us if we don’t at least try to do something about it.

And we all know what that sorry sentiment can lead to:
Inaction! Either because
we’re too exhausted by all this chaos to give a damn anymore, or
we’re frustrated that it seems so never-ending that we figure there’s no use, or
we’re so demoralized and worn down by this constant political water torture that we give up.

And we CANNOT afford to give up. We have to stay strong. We have to be able to continue the resistance against this CONSTANT stream of lies and deceptions and duplicity. That affliction is what makes many Dems and independents stay home on Election Day and not vote. The whole “they’re BOTH/ALL bad!” thing and the “fie on BOTH their houses!” thing.

And the simple truth is - there are more of us than there are of the other side of the aisle when it comes to sheer numbers of voters. All we have to do is make sure that most or all of us SHOW UP and VOTE! Or damn sure mail it in on time!

The other team has more money, more wealthy patrons, and better messaging than we do. What WE have are the numbers. The numbers of voters. If only we can get them out to vote, we win.

The last few times, as I’ve observed, the bad guys won because they cheated. Either by gerrymandering, voter suppression, bullying, rigging the game at the state level, or getting outside help from the Russians. And if you’ll note, those ill gotten gains were all in narrow wins. Somebody on the Dark Side figured out that all it takes is a little bit of win. What was it in 2016? A difference of 20,000 votes in one state? What was it in Bush v Gore? Some 500 votes? Just enough to win the state.

If they have to cheat to win by a few hairs, then all we have to do is get everybody who can - to vote. And WE will have the numbers and WE will have just enough - or likely MORE than enough - to win that state.

We have to get out and vote. Voting is it. Voting is all. Don’t even need the most money or the best messaging - if we all flex our numbers and vote. Size is everything. And ours is bigger.

Aw shit - sorry this is so long.

They do seem to be in the process of becoming status quo, i.e. "normal" whether by design or sheer dumb luck and volume I cannot tell as yet.

Not with us, of course, but one can hardly absorb the current outrage before another knocks it its front page perch. Scandals that would in more normal times be spoken of, discussed and yes, dissected for weeks all fight for our attention with one another or with the new, latest outrage .

Like I said, whether by design or otherwise I cannot quite tell. They say not to ascribe to malice what can be explained by stupidity but they may have just inadvertently stumbled onto a fortuitous mechanism here and if not, they're sure catching on fast or soon will.

9. There was a knock on the door a the other day.

I went to the door and it was a stranger. Turns out it was a local candidate for the Ky legislature, out knocking on doors and asking for votes. He handed me a 5x7 card with his pic on the front and some stuff about him. I told him I was impressed that he was actually out knocking on doors and introducing himself. We've been her for 10 years and this is the first time that a candidate has actually come to the door.

After he left I started to read his info on the back of the card. Very impressive and ... he was a Democrat! I went back out and called to him. Told him I had read the back of the card and that he had my vote!!

Today we were coming home from the grocery and actually saw some yard signs for him. This is a VERY red district, but one week from tomorrow the Mrs. and I will be doing our part to turn it Blue! And maybe a few others from the neighborhood!

My daughter is a teacher and told me about an excellent candidate that was very pro- teachers and schools. A few days later, I answered the doorbell and there he was in person! We had a nice long chat and I now have his sign in my yard!
