Chelsea Manning vows to eliminate US borders, close prisons and abolish ICE

Chelsea Manning vows to eliminate US borders, close prisons and abolish ICE before it commits 'ethnic cleansing' as she campaigns for Maryland Senate seat

<snip>

"Manning (left and inset campaigning, right at her home), 30, filed to run in January and has been registered to vote in Maryland since August. She lives in North Bethesda, not far from where she stayed with an aunt while awaiting trial. Her aim is to unseat Sen. Ben Cardin, a 74-year-old Maryland Democrat who is seeking his third Senate term and previously served 10 terms in the U.S. House. 'The rise of authoritarianism is encroaching in every aspect of life, whether it's government or corporate or technological,' Manning said. She says she doesn't, in fact, even consider herself a Democrat, but is motivated by a desire to shake up establishment Democrats who are 'caving in' to President Donald Trump's administration. She's certainly got an eye-catching platform: Close prisons and free inmates; eliminate national borders; restructure the criminal justice system; provide universal healthcare and basic income."

I think she's maybe 80 years ahead of her time. If the media is saying 'close all prisons' regarding her platform eh? uh?

Some people do thinks like - MURDER - and um - I want them off the streets.

motivated by a high-minded desire to yada, yada. Standard dissident-left desire to kick over the Democratic bucket as a supposed way of battling Trump and authoritarianism. Gee, where have we heard that twisted reasoning before?

Bernie Sanders hasn't endorsed her (of course!), which must frustrate the sympathetic bucket-kickers among his following.

Can we make that official, and get it added to the Acronyms and Nicknames List?

And, as an aside, I have no problems whatsoever with anyone who is willing to be rational (and work rationally to bring) about, even the most far-reaching or high-minded of Liberal positions.

our shared goals, instead of sabotaging their best chances to turn them into reality through factional obstructionism. Actions speak louder, and at times infinitely more honestly, than words.

Learn governance. Realize that whatever you had on the outside that moved you or your agenda forward doesn't work once you're take an office.
Talk and social reputation is nice, but in the swamp that is governance and bureaucracy, to survive, you need to know how to build a bridge, swim, or make a boat as it were.

Very few business people, high profile activists, or celebrities actually make good legislators when they start out. All their "Look at me, I'm going to fix this or that" disappears as soon as they have to actually do the work, when they have to make concessions to get what is best for everyone and the process accomplished. When they have to actually build a reputation for getting things done and working with others.
Executive branch is different. It's got it's own issues, but an experienced, successful businessman or someone who successfully leads an organization with a wide range of goals and people should be able to be president without too much of a learning curve on how the government works, because it's an executive rather than a legislative activity.

In government as in life, there's no magic wand to make others want to follow anyone's lead. Especially at the high levels.

Honestly, Governance is worse than parenting or substitute teaching. It's not something anyone is instantly good at, unless they're a savant. So if one is serious about being a good legislator as a career, one should always start local, or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Chelsea needs to get some new insult buzzwords.. those are over done and stale.

She's not a Democrat but running in the Dem Primary? I read when this first came out that Sen Ben Cardin was popular in Maryland and none of that shite that Manning ascribes to him.

I find her a blowhard full of empty words.
