Where did this term originate? I recall it being used in the early days of computers.

(4,542 posts)Once I had to take a word processing class and thought "not problem" do that a lot at home, using a very early mac. Went into the classroom and they were using a wordperfect product with all these cheat sheets telling what key combinations you needed to add formatting. Jesus, they were using stone knives and bear skins.

(17,090 posts)Good program too. Before InDesign it was either Pagemaker or Quark Express.
WYSIWIG may have been around before the internet but my first memory of usage was to describe web-page building programs where you didn't have to hand-write the code in a text editor.
