The Senate is Republican, but New York politics is not ideological; in fact, they just swapped out their Gov candidate from someone who's NOT a Trump supporter.

The Assembly is overwhelmingly Democratic. Hence there'll be an agreement to appoint a placeholder until the November election.

Anyone who does it "right" takes the wishes and limits of their partner very seriously for these exact reasons and knows that you don't inflict any act upon someone unless they very specifically want it to happen, have agreed to it beforehand, and have a "safe word" they can use to stop the proceedings at any time.

As eye-rollingly stupid as 50 Shades of Grey is, that is legitimately how some of these relationships are negotiated. They don't need to be put in writing, necessarily; the persons involved just need to establish enough of a trust relationship before they push boundaries and "play" at being in and out of control.

The "top" in these types of relationships has to understand that this is the exact thing that is going to happen if they don't play safe and establish trust on both sides. You don't just "spring" this type of extreme activity on your partner by surprise.
