Sounds like they patted her on the head and gave her a cookie.

Maybe it got lost in translation from Slovenian.

Hence "Be Best" instead of "Be The Best."

Either way, it's lame.

but since Melania's native tongue (as in most Slavic languages) drops the article it came out "Be best".

I always say "have a good day! learn stuff!" or something like that. Maybe tomorrow I will say this and see their reaction.

I went back in and asked my daughter (who listens to "Pod Save America" as she gets ready for work) if I should have told them "Be best!" and she looked at me like I was nuts. I had to explain where it came from.

"Be best" or "be the best"--doesn't matter.

"Do your best" is much more like what I'd want to say. That means you are basically a worthwhile person and you should try to do your best. This means competing with your own self, not others!

Behavior, not intrinsic value as a human being!

Imagine the RW's apoplectic outcry if a high-profile Democrat had announced from the Rose Garden a quasi-official phrase like this without using an appropriate article or pronoun.

Also, she knows her husband is the most prominent bully with the most prominent bully pulpit on the face of the Earth, right?

Man there is no pleasing some people.

I have a bit of sympathy for Melania. I don't think this is what she gold dug, I mean signed up for at all.

Until she was surrounded by the nice folks at Barbara Bush's memorial service she looked at miserable as Pope Francis in every picture with that husband of hers.

Be Best may not be good English but one can certainly get the message.

What if that loser, Russian asset husband of hers just set her up by forcing her to do this project and name it?

Come on, have some compassion. you know - BE BEST

Proud of her "creativity"? "The brilliance of the first lady?" Are they going to give her a gold star for getting out of bed today?

Honestly, what does this woman do all day? She has to be the most useless person on the planet and they are praising her just for sucking up oxygen.
