Yes, tremendous damage is being done and people are being hurt.

The one positive thing is that the vast majority of changes are not happening through laws passed by Congress (which can be difficult to undo), but rather through actions of the executive branch (which can be easier to undo if we get a Democratic president).

Trump and Trumpism is the racist, knee-jerk reaction to President Obama and his policies and the actual change he brought to America. Undoing the policies is not erasing his legacy, it will ultimately enhance it. When a Democratic President and Congress eventually returns to power, the whiplash effect of this era will be finished. Literally everything Trump is doing will be undone in the first 100 days, it will be FDR redux...hopefully without a second Great Depression.

Trump is truly a moron, his followers are racist idiots and the arc of history does not bend towards their spite.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/01/trump-hasnt-destroyed-obamas-legacy.html

just a snip of the article.

Yet even as conservatives have grown more satisfied with Trump’s accomplishments, they have retreated from their giddy belief that he could and would dismantle his predecessor’s. Indeed, in a curious way, Trump has inadvertently affirmed the value and durability of the 44th presidency. One year after his departure, Obama’s legacy is actually stronger than ever.

The turnip in office hates Obama so much that he's done everything he could to reverse or stop any and all of the benefits the previous administration's 8 years produced...even those the Republicans agreed on.

We actually are in the continuation of Bush II.

Is it really 2009 plus? or the equivalent of a time warped 2011 under Republicans? Did we just move back in time 9 years? Sure seems like it.

and while broad strokes about people can be very dangerous territory, (frustrated and powerless rant follows)...
the hideous destruction comes from soul damaged Republicans in power: capitalist, bigoted, entitlement drenched white men who reek of misogyny hiding behind twisted Christianity and vile racism. Conservatives in power conserve nothing. They obliterate decency for profit and greed. We are skirting the edges of the Perfect Storm of nation destroying human corruption.

Furthermore, these foul men have successfully wakened, encouraged and embraced the wretchedly STUPID of America who have always been a shallowly existing sub species in the U.S. to make them a vicious, unfettered and accepted norm. Mean, lip curling, classless, graceless men and women now have a nauseating voice and platform.

Along with the lost integrity of reality show mentality media and a gutless deterioration of decency and courage among “journalists”...

We are in for years of heart crushing shit that will be a long time in recovery, even with the perseverance of millions of good and true men and women. It is going to be a damned long battle that we must win.

down, to dominate. The more their leaders are unsympathetic hardasses, the better. Race always matters for them, but isn't necessary in this equation...so you get attacks on the ADA, CHIP, health care, women's rights, voting rights. Poor people of any color, of course. Any other country (except ones where they have more unsympathetic sociopathic hardasses in charge than we do). Refugees.

The GOP has been collecting and cultivating this cross section of America for a long time and Trump is what we get.

This principle appears to trump principles, laws, religion, sense of justice, morality, oaths of office.

The ideology is one of undermining the effectiveness of and trust in the US government, which is what links Putin and Republicans. Republicans seek super-individualism and super-privatization, an end to any notion of there being a commons, an end to collectivism. The Powell Memo helped get the ball rolling.

Key to that, of course, is denying or ignoring injustices, including any notion that past injustices could possibly continue to impact the present.
