A new CNN poll finds the Democratic partys edge over Republicans in the generic congressional ballot is nearly gone, 47% to 44%.
Voters also are divided almost evenly over whether the country would be better off with the Democrats in control of Congress (31%) or with the GOP in charge (30%). A sizable 34% including nearly half of independent voters (48%) say it doesnt matter which party controls Congress.
Reality check: the FiveThirtyEight polling average still shows Democrats ahead by eight points, 48% to 40%.

(34,661 posts)What is with these outlier Polling Companies getting all the ink? People have to look at the Poll and who paid for it and who is doing the Polling.
The mentioned Polling Company tends to be bent way to the right.

(1,180 posts)The 2016 election proved just being Anti-Trump isnt enough. The Dems would win in a heartbeat if they ALL came out in favor of:
$15 minimum wage
Medicare for All
Free College for All
Anti-War
Legal Marijuana
Overturning Citizens United
Pro-Teacher
But some in Democratic Leadership have balked in supporting these issues, and are in peril of remaining in the Minority.

(1,180 posts)The media is owned by major corporations and theyre not political organizations.
Its up to the Democrats to be figuratively standing on every corner of the Country and shouting out what they stand for.

(65,156 posts)after that the focus got too much on Trump himself and converting moderate Repukes. Kaine is a nice guy but wasn't a great VP choice IMO. Democrats do stand for things but need the message to get out.

(47,209 posts)Saying there was no platform when they could have gone online and looked for it- but didnt bother- are also a huge part of the problem. Repeating lies about Dems is a problem.

(65,156 posts)Overturning Citizens United might have to be first on the list to make everything else easier..
As as far as the poll goes, very possibly an outlier. Though I don't trust the electorate to have one ounce of common sense after the insanity of Trump.

(1,580 posts)The repukes are taking jabs at it more frequently, and they will use the enormous budget deficit they are creating to justify huge cuts to SS. Everyone on social security or close to getting it should be ready to riot.

New generic ballot polls clearly show Ds are definitely going to either win or lose the House.
- CNN: D+3
- CBS: D+9
- Economist/YouGov: D+9

Good example of why you shouldn't pay much attention to individual polls. FiveThirtyEight's average has Dems at +7, as it has been, give or take a point or two, since February.
CNN poll is an outlier.

(10,721 posts)...with the help of their procedural war...that they've convinced a third of the population that it doesn't matter which party is in charge. Democrats must find a way to address this.
