From the beginning I have said I believe the Russians support of Trump isn't necessarily to get anything back from him directly, it is to generate US instability. The instability of our government and division among it's people. They understand the limitations of the Presidency, and more than that, the President himself is temporary.
Don't get me wrong, the Russian are benefiting directly from Trump as he appears to be compromised. I simply think that is an added bonus for the Russian. That said, I do not think Putin has any love for Trump outside of the fact he is a destabilizing force.
Russia 2.0 is going to cause enormous chaos within our country. I believe we are about to witness the take-down of Trump and the Russians will be involved. I believe hackers are going to be releasing extremely damning information on Trump. They will do so over a period of time to maximize the chaos it will cause within our own country.
The prospects of Trump being reelected are slim(not impossible) and the Russians know it. Their time to benefit from Trump is very limited.
The right wing does not care that the Russians just helped to elect Trump and that Trump is clearly paying them back, to the extent he can. The right wing will take to the streets as the Russians take down the President. We will be celebrating as document after document is released by the Russians about Trump. The chaos will be devastating. It will take a lot to bring it all back together.
I think the Russians operations are so robust that we are about to see years worth of Trumps full tax returns, emails from Trump and his associates directly speaking about their criminal activity, more banking information directly outlining criminal payments, etc.
People are so far up Trumps ass that I believe he will no longer be an asset to Russian oligarchs when he leaves office like he was before he took office. To me this spells the end for Trump.
Muellers report is one we are all looking forward to. It's interesting that Mueller talked to at least two of the companies involved in Avenatti's recent release in November and December of last year. Literally six and seven months ago Mueller was investigating these transactions. I don't think the report or anything else will stop Russia from taking down Trump. I believe they will start well before the report is released, if they haven't already started.

(31,681 posts)Whoever gave Mr. Avenatti those banking records - probably has connections to Russia. I do. And I think you are right.
But - I don't think the Right will take to the streets. I think the Left will.

I think we are ready about 5 minutes after Mueller gets fired. And I think that will be the trigger. They will be out there an hour later to harass and intimidate - but I truly believe they think they are the righteous. They believe that 45/140 is some kind of mythical God that shall not be touched.

(14,514 posts)Riots and battles in the streets. Trump's well-armed MAGA brownshirts against the forces of the left.
You know, the only thing holding us up is the last vestiges of our 'free press,' and the so-called 'deep state' Trump loves to talk about. These are people who swore oaths to uphold this country and its constitution, NOT a political party or a single president.
That's why the right wing propaganda is so down on the government and the 'deep state.' The monied interests are fomenting this revolution because they see it as a coup by which they can pay politicians they own to reroute money from our treasury to corporate coffers through 'defense' or other government contracts, and through tax cuts. The rest of the agenda? Deregulate everything, privatize everything possible and gut the New Deal.
And, to do this, they know they will need 'soldiers' from these gun-nut 'well-regulated' militias (remember the militia that came out from under their rocks to support the welfare rancher Cliven Bundy? That is what it will look like on the ground) to face off against the Army, Reserves and National Guard, as well as the FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF and NSA who will surely be ordered to stand down by the dirt-bag Trump.
That's what I'm afraid of.

(1,676 posts)I agree to a great extent, but disagree that Putin never wanted anything directly from Trump. I agree that Putin wanted confusion, instability, and division, but I definitely think he started out wanting sanctions relief also, and that the sanctions relief was probably at least as important to them as the other goal. However, it soon became obvious that sanctions relief was not going to happen. So Putin then defaulted to what was left: confusion, instability, and division.
Why were the inflammatory photos of the Oval Office meeting with Kislyak and Lavrov made public by Tass? Why did the Russian lawyer who met in Trump Tower with Kushner, Don Jr., and Manafort admit three weeks ago that she had real connections to Russian intelligence? There have been other less important leaks from Russia that have been of a similar nature, in that they have caused a lot of trouble for Trump. Obviously, those actions had to have been approved by Putin.
Yes, Trump is now nearly useless to Russia, except as a vehicle for bringing upheaval to the US.

Why were the inflammatory photos of the Oval Office meeting with Kislyak and Lavrov made public by Tass?
It was deliberate.

(1 post)Putin may not want tRump to consolidate power in the long run. But why wouldnt tRumps handlers be warning him?

I love the use of "tRump's handlers". Cause he clearly can't handle himself.

(7,968 posts)In my opinion the control of Trump and the hacking of our election are direct evidence that they have actually gained control.
Putin is our new leader whether we know it or not.
I also suspect that Trump may be re-elected. As horrible as that sounds this shit has awhile to go before it completely plays out and the American people are very gullible and naive. Wish it were not true but it is.

(30,481 posts)The overriding factor in my mind is that the have a limited time to get the most out of Trump. I believe they are at a point where what you mention will occur regardless if we are in a state of chaos.

(42,654 posts)It's about economic and geopolitical advantage. This has been a good 45 years in the planning. I say that because there were echoes of the current environment in a handful of articles over that time period that didn't make sense at the time of publication. How could that possibly happen? one would be left wondering. From today's perspective one can see how the pieces of the puzzle were assembled, or prepared for assembly. Some hard right true believer ideologues are as duped as the lowliest pro-Trumper in Appalachia. They haven't a clue what is happening.
