Move over, Florida - we're giving you a run for your money!!
An Iowa man says his dog inadvertently shot him while they were roughhousing Wednesday.
Fifty-one-year-old Richard Remme, of Fort Dodge, told police he was playing with his dog, Balew, on the couch and tossed the dog off his lap. He says when the pit bull-Labrador mix bounded back up, he must have disabled the safety on the gun in his belly band and stepped on the trigger.
The gun fired, striking one of Remme's legs. He was treated at a hospital and released later that day.
Remme told The Messenger newspaper that Balew is a "big wuss" and laid down beside him and cried because he thought he had done something wrong.
Police Chief Roger Porter called the shooting a freakish occurrence.

"One day, the Animals woke up. They started thinking. They started talking. They started taking revenge. Now, a dog and his girl are trying to get away--out of New York City, and all the way to San Francisco, to the only person who might be able to protect and save her. "

(8,445 posts)I wonder what it's like to be so paranoid about the world that one would feel a need to wear a gun in one's belly band while sitting on one's own couch in one's own home.
Or he's just a typical gun nut idiot.

(4,522 posts)carrying it "cocked and locked" (well, not so locked) - and "ready to go"
I never understood the carry thing. Especially how it HAS to be quick-draw ready like they're instantly ready to slap leather.
Heaven forbid the "bad guy" gets a drop on you.
I really wonder if a lot of these accidents increased with the "striker fire" type guns that most people carry now -which are inevitably carried "cocked"
I feel sorry for the paranoia and fear these guys (and it's mostly guys) feel

One of my husband's friends keeps a gun in every room of his house. When he told my husband about this, my hubby asked, "Even in the bathroom?" The answer was , "Yes."
My husband has known this guy since they met while serving in Viet Nam. I've known him since the mid-1980s. Upon learning about this gun nuttery last October, my husband's statement to me was, "If I weren't his friend already, I don't think I'd be his friend now."

(14,854 posts)I bet he was playing with his gun, fondling it, playing quick-draw, spinning it, or some such stupid shit and shot himself. He's too embarrassed to tell the truth, so he's blaming it on that poor dog.

(64,990 posts). . .this guy is a buffoon. Wearing a loaded gun in the house, roughhousing with a pit bull, and he gets shot. If he's telling the truth, he's a fool. If he's making this up, he's a fool and a liar.
