(6,137 posts)the single biggest achievement of mccains life was losing to Obama. And for that I am grateful.

(8,000 posts)so I looked it up. Politifact says he did no such thing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no big fan of McCain's, but he's dying and he doesn't deserve blame for that fire. As for Sarah Palin, he's totally guilty of that one!

(2,596 posts)but you can shoot me an e-mail. The short version is that there was a fire on the flight deck and while everyone else was running toward it, McCain was doing the John Cleese run in the other direction.
And there are questions about his actual combat skills. But then, like the shrub, he was trying to live up to the deeds of his father and grandfather if I remember correctly.

(8,000 posts)Why are you clinging to this story?
rwsanders
(2,596 posts)I didn't say he caused it. Just didn't help fight the fire.
Can't find the article, but this one is enough to make anyone question his character:

(8,000 posts)but it said "page not found."
BTW, I have found no neutral news sources that fault him for his actions there. The Swift Boaters did this to John Kerry and someone is trying to get McCain in the same way... and it's primarily trumpsters who are doing it. The guy is dying, and if he did anything he shouldn't have, sure... go ahead and beat him up if you want... but I have still seen nothing to make me think he did anything (or failed to do anything).
I think this is likely as close to the truth as we can get after all this time:

If you read it, you will see that he was injured (burns and shrapnel wounds to his legs and chest). He helped to toss some bombs overboard before he went to have his wounds treated. He never claimed to have done more than that. Apparently, there was little or no training in firefighting and all were terribly unprepared. It just doesn't sound like he should be bashed for this. We hated what they did to John Kerry and we shouldn't do it to McCain. Especially now.
As I said before, I am not a supporter of McCain at all, but I don't believe in pushing crap that's not true. If it is proven to be true, I'll acknowledge it.

(2,596 posts)Hmmm. Link is gone, but the article was picked up by "The American Conservative", doesn't do a lot for its credibility.
Basically Nixon's secret negotiations with Vietnam included a war reparations for prisoners component. When Nixon didn't come through about 1750 men were left behind. THe article claims McCain knows.

(6,262 posts)She has more substance than most Repug spouses. He probably married her for her money, but she is a good person. I remember making fun of her "prom dress" expensive wear during one of their appearances, but now regret that.
I did not vote for him. Hated whatever propelled him to choose Moosilla, disagreed with his stances, but liked Cindy.
I really hope she takes his place in the Senate for the short term, if need be, rather than Meghan.

(6,262 posts)Reading past articles on the choice of Moosilla - seems everyone's name involved in pushing her except Cindy's. Mostly after that Alaska cruise (not attenede by the McCains) where she made herself known to Repug. bigwigs, who then began raving about her on various right wing media. It grew from there.
Maybe you have a source for that?

(6,831 posts)White House special assistant to the snizzwad in the Oval Office, Kelly Sadler, said about McCain's vote in opposition to Gina Haspel to head the CIA: "It doesn't matter. He's dying anyway."
Just another repulsive piece of republican pond snot.
The level of incivility from this WH just never ends. If democrats had said this about him, the outrage would jolt the Richter scale to 9.9

And they wonder why theyre called deplorables.

(82,849 posts)Sadler's jerk-ass comment was in a closed, private meeting at the White House. Apparently, nobody in the meeting laughed. But somebody got to a friendly reporter to tell all about it. Isn't that lovely evidence of just how esteemed Sadler is among his peers?

They know that Trump is scum and they worship him anyway.
These people working in the White House aren't just like the "good Germans" who acquiesced and enabled a depraved madman 75 years ago. They are like the ones who strapped on the uniform and died trying to advance his dream of genocide and world domination.

(11,885 posts)But he's partly the reason why we're in the position we're in now because of his nomination of Palin, and it's gotten worse, and if rump isn't stopped and made an example of, the next rump will be much worse, and even more cruel to others. John McCain saved health care for millions by his vote, and that alone is worth a great deal of thanks. He even regrets palin , so i even forgive him for that now also. He would have never had her on the ticket if he had known what she was going to do. He also served bravely in the service when many others critical of him didn't. Getting captured and tortured he bravely endured the worse of what could have happened to him , and he still was successful afterwards. John McCain deserves respect and admiration because he's earned it for his service to this country, again unlike many who are now cowardly critical of him when his illness worsens. I may not like or agree with some of his policies, but at least he served his country first instead of paying his way out of serving with dr. excuses like many others have done putting themselves first over and over again.
