Why is it being said over and over that we need to cajole, bend a knee and beg and pray, coddle, nurture, educate and basically lead these recalcitrant voters to the booth to vote? Why is it being said that we need them more than our base of black voters? Why are we being asked to put money and resources in a group that will NEVER vote for a Democrat?
Remember the image of a woman trump supporter with the hand painted message? It said grab my...with an arrow pointing downward. She had a smile of gleeful ignorance on her face and seemed more than happy to be there.
Why do we need to hold their hand to lead them to vote for their best interests? They will never vote for us and we have no need to cater to them. I say go after our base and I know our base ticks people off. Why?
Because they are black.
Power. They are the ones.

(40,208 posts)that said Trump can grab my (arrow pointing to her vagina) actually made me sad and depressed. It made me sad for her because I try to have empathy for anyone who is a colossal ignoramus. And it made me depressed because these voters are forever lost. You are 100% right sheshe2. We need to focus on our own base.

(63,221 posts)Fuck them. They aren't worth our time.
That woman you mentioned especially made me sick. People like her are hopeless. They are the scum of the earth and they will never change.
Watch what happens when they piss enough people off. That will wipe the smirks off their faces.

(83,746 posts)I am heartbroken that there are women like her. Far to many. It is 2018 and this is who they are. They take women's rights back decades. We fought for our freedoms and a right to vote for eons. She makes me feel dirty.

(964 posts)These people will never listen because to them politics is like a sport, where their team will always be their team. It's not about policies or interests, it about team DEM or team GOP, and quite unfortunately most of these folks are not educated enough to seek out the truth. Dumb is dumb, you can't change dumb. The problem with our base, is that we are sometimes a little too smart. Appearing too intelligent does not allow us to connect with each other, it's like listening to your parents who always proclaim to be right just "because". We exert authority with our so-call knowledge and that doesn't work. But I agreed, we need to do a better job of connecting.

(31,810 posts)I saw it for the first time on Sunday this week - we watched the whole series because I LOVE the new series of movies.
I never got as a kid why my parents always wanted to watch those movies when they came on the old UHF channel. I tuned out.
They were massive social statements. Massive. And yes - watching it was chilling.

(37,428 posts)Undermine their enthusiasm for an agenda that is killing them, too, and convert a handful to voting Democratic, and we don't need to worry much about the diehards and performatives.
And Trump himself is doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

(1,954 posts)As it stands, that vote is already about as nailed down as it will get; 60-62% voting rate is damned good. We can chase the other 40%, or we can go for a chunk of peel on that 70% white number.
I'm not disputing or arguing with what you said, we should cater to the needs of AA and other minority groups as a matter of course, but the blunt fact is just numbers; far more whites than blacks, and black voters are already pretty solidly on our side. Even if we somehow managed 100% black turnout in our favor, that's not nearly enough to win an election.
You can't argue with math.

Well, in regards to attempts to "educate" them anyway. But I don't see a lot of praying, begging and knee bending going on in the direction of any hard core Trump voters in any case by anyone. Another thing I don't see being said by anyone is that we need "educable" Trump voters more than our base black voters. I do however often see it said that we need to win enough Congressional elections to win back the House and Senate from Republicans.
Conor Lamb won his special Congressional Election in PA by 1 or 2%. Trump won that district by about 21%. How do you feel about that Congressional race result and how Lamb went about obtaining it?
