In Congress and in Many State Legislatures, Democrats Are the Minority Party

That sucks. We can correct that this November, if we manage to get enough Democratic voters out to the polling places.

The way to do that is NOT to trash the Democratic Party in advance of that election. Just the opposite. We need to strongly support Democratic candidates, wherever they appear on the ballot. It's not a matter of purity any longer. It's a matter of regaining majorities in Congress and in our state legislatures. It's a matter of survival!

If someone is trashing Democratic Party leaders right now, they're not helping to do that. We cannot survive if we do not win majorities. It is that simple. Let's win in November. Then, with majorities re-established, we can start working on making the party more progressive.

Here's a clue: Every primary candidate in this weeks primaries who was endorsed by Our Revolution, an supposedly progressive group, lost. Every one of them. We can't retain majority control if we do not win elections.

Don't like that? Too bad. We need to elect more Democrats, not fewer. Let's all help with that goal right now, OK?

It's often important to know how you got somewhere, in order to know how to get out.

Our priority needs to be getting people out to vote for Democrats. How we got here was by not doing that very thing. It's really, really simple.

Race-based voter suppression and gerrymandering, as well as a piss-poor mainstream media/infotainment industry (that promotes false equivalencies and the notion that all statements are equally valid opinions--as if there are no facts and there are no falsehoods).

But the party has also made mistakes. When a batshit crazy Republican Party has the White House, the US Senate, the US House, a clear majority of state legislatures and a clear majority of governorships, it would be insane for the Democratic Party to not engage in some critical self-reflection. Those who deny that only hurt the cause.
