Ayatollah Khamenei reading Wolff's 'Fire and Fury'

On Friday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was pictured in a post on his Instagram feed at the Tehran Book Fair.

Nothing unusual there, but in one image he was seen reading a Persian-language edition of Michael Wolff's book Fire and Fury, which claims that life in the White House is chaotic.
...
The photo was posted just days after Iran's President Hassan Rouhani appeared to troll the US in the wake of Mr Trump's decision to pull out of the deal.

but I know there was opposition to it then given what happened with the League of Nations (in a word, a fiasco) and those who believed it would reduce the U.S.'s power around the world.

But Raygun was probably the first President who spearheaded reducing or eliminating the U.S. contribution of funding towards it.

While private gunrunners continue to thrive, the world's biggest arms suppliers are the U.S., U.K., Russia, France, and China. They are also the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council.

The "Permanent Representatives" (Security Council) should be a rotating group of countries from within each of the largest populated continents (where Australia would be under an "Asia" group). I.e., one each from North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

The current body is very much an artifact of WW2.

Maybe a good idea but a rich and powerful group would find a reason to oppose such a change.

IMHO the current body is an artifact of money. WWI was a bout money; WWII was about fixing what went wrong the first time. With WWII a new age began where the money horizons were greatly expanded.

As a kid in the early 1960s I remember a neighbor who had a bumper sticker that read "Get the U.S. out of the U.N"

…..is starting to view us with pity and contempt. Canada, Europe, Africa, Asia, Russia, and South America will do what they can to move on into the 21st Century together, ignoring and managing this stupid, cruel climate -denying oligarchy.

I’ve been fortunate to have traveled internationally fairly frequently. One of the biggest takeaways: America is not the center of everyone’s universe. I find that comforting.
