A Melancholy Evening

A few years ago, more than I'd like to admit, I had a wonderful dog. Except any cats, which weren't our cat, didn't fare well when entering his yard.

One morning I was doing Saturday chores when I became aware of a ruckus in the yard. To my horror, a beautiful old tom-cat had tempted fate.

I was just sick about it and I wasn't sure the best course of action. I couldn't just put him in the garbage. I loaded him up and drove about 30 miles to Mom's. My parents lived in a rural area with acreage.

When I arrived I explained to Mom what happened. She grabbed a couple of shovels and we made our way up the hill. We buried the poor Tom.

As we returned to the house, I told Mom I needed to get going. She asked if I wanted to stay for dinner. I said no, it is finals week and I need to hit the books. She offered to make me a snack. No, I said, I best get going.

As I was getting in the car, she said: "I hope no one at work asks me what my daughter brought me for Mother's Day tomorrow".

I love my Mom so much. I miss her terribly.

Cheers to all the Moms. Who else would help you bury the cat.

She was a wise woman.

I carry her wisdom and philosophy with me thru life now.

I miss her bad.

All the best to all moms and to you daughter.
