Is that normal for northern Virginia? I used to live outside Leesburg and I can’t recall tornado warnings. Yikes. Stay safe DUers.

Most of them don't result in actual tornados, but this particular line of storms is very strong and unstable.

Lots of wind. Lots of rain. Some lightening and thunder. The front came through pretty quickly. Now they are calling for local flooding.

I think they call tornado warnings more frequently because of the improvement in meteorological technology. I grew up in Tornado Alley. My feeling is, better safe than sorry.

I’ve been in a storm shelter when a twister blew through. I was nine and in Texas. I will never forget it. Also got stung by a scorpion down in that dark bunker. That was the worst!

Late 1980s, Tornado hit NW DC, CC-Beth., MD. Many large trees & power lines down all over, electricity out 4 days.

Pool reports:

Just before 6:30 pm ET, the presidential motorcade departed Walter Reed under stormy conditions to head back to the White House. The motorcade headed toward the beltway, part of which is currently under a tornado warning as Derecho Fever grips Washington DC.

At 6:59 p.m. ET, President Trump and his motorcade arrived back on White House grounds under heavy rain in Washington, DC.

About a half hour in this weather on the beltway! I wonder how much longer the ordinary folks on the beltway took because of him. He could have lengthened his visit until the storms passed through. I guess an hour was all he could stand visiting Melania.
