On election night in 2008, when it became clear that Senator McCain would lose to Senator Obama, Sarah Palin reportedly wanted to make a concession speech. This tense scene is described in detail in both the book and film, "Game Change."
Palin made repeated attempts to force herself onto the stage to deliver her speech until she was shut down by campaign manager Steve Schmidt and Senator McCain himself.
My question is this: Has Palin's speech ever been released or revealed? It would be fascinating to read the messages she thought Americans should hear on that historic night.
From the reporting, it is clear that the McCain campaign had very little regard for Palin by that point. It would be an unprecedented step for the VP candidate to make a concession speech and I'm sure the campaign was worried what insanities would issue forth from Palin's maw.

(22,034 posts)It's surprising, really, that Palin's speech actually sounded respectable, in some ways. Of course, that might be because I've become callused by Trump's inane ramblings.
Thanks for the link, Rhiannon!

(205,247 posts)I still remember that speech she did with Trump on stage that made absolutely no sense at all, but it does say a lot about how ridiculous he sounds if she's the better speaker!

(1,816 posts)I can accept that she had a speech written for her.
But McCain's people knew her best.
I sure what was written down for her and what she would have said would have been 2 very different things.

McCain says he regrets picking Palin as running mate
By Morgan Gstalter - 05/05/18
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he regrets choosing former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) to be his running mate during the 2008 presidential campaign.
The New York Times reported on Saturday that McCain, while still defending Palins performance, said in his upcoming book, The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and other Appreciations, that he wishes he had instead selected former Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.)
His advisers reportedly had warned against choosing Lieberman, who was once a Democrat, stating that Liebermans support of abortion rights could divide Republicans.

(22,034 posts)Yeah, Palin was a boil. And McCain opened the door to the tea party crazies that resulted in Trump.
My curiosity about Palin's conversation speech was simply focused on how divisive it might have been.

(2,872 posts)campaign covered all the insanity that was in that speech.. Trump was brought forth by McCains insane pick as a running mate.. make no mistake - all the propagandists chain emails that conservatives were frothing at the mouth over from 2008-2016 culminated in the 2015/16 republican primary..
