More Cruelty, Racism, Inhumanity... Real or...?

It seems as though the barrage of incidents involving appalling racist actions, cruelty, and inhumanity is getting steadier and more detailed every month, recently. Certainly Trayvon, Ferguson, and much appalling and lethal racism predated [Redacted] and received news coverage.

But now we're seeing an increasing number of stories about less lethal but morally grotesque incidents of racist privilege being acted upon in all kinds of venues. And we're seeing more stories of women being targeted for abuse and degradation because they are women. And we're seeing more stories of appallingly vicious -and lethal- cruelty to children: Being torn from their families at the border, having their parents taken from them when they're already here, being gassed and abandoned and starved and collateralized into damage in the Middle East.

What's going on?

curiously,
Bright

We are getting crueler and more callous as a species because the world is overpopulated, income inequity and climate change are stressing humanity.
0 (0%)
Those who have always been crueler and more callous among us are more emboldened by right-wing populism, nationalist and facist movements and are acting it out more and getting called on it less.
0 (0%)
We are more conscious and aware and concerned about racism, cruelty, and callousness, and so paying more attention to such incidents- and attention breeds more media coverage.

The media has just escalated "If it bleeds, it leads" to a whole new level of priority, regardless of what kind of cultural feedback loop it sets up.

Some combination of the above factors (can you give percentages?)

None of the above, you're imagining it or haven't been paying attention. These stories have always been a big part of what the media feeds us.

It's happening alright, but not for any of those reasons. (Please give your explanation.)

“racism isn’t getting worse, it’s getting filmed” that being said, I also think maga people are more emboldened to speak their minds.

Racism, like misogyny and xenophobia, have always been there, and many people have always acted on them to do cruel and callous things.

It makes sense that a) We're seeing those things more, because of the ability to capture and share the observation of the actions via media; and b) People who have always had the feelings may be acting on them more based on the perception of encouragement from powerful voices.

affirmatively,
Bright
