Speaker: “Mr. Lew & the White House Owe the American People an Explanation” on Solyndra

At his weekly press briefing today, Speaker Boehner said White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew owed “the American people an explanation about why they squandered hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars” on Solyndra. The Speaker discussed the new report from the Energy & Commerce Committee, which shows that the Department of Energy and Office of Management & Budget knew the company’s financial condition was unstable before the loan guarantee was issued, but those concerns were brushed aside by an Administration that was more concerned about finding press events to highlight its failed ‘stimulus’ policy than ensuring that taxpayer dollars were spent wisely. The Speaker also discussed the report in the Washington Post this morning which shows that White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew ignored the warnings of his own staff and failed to shut down Solyndra. This was just one of the many alarm bells that were ignored every step of the way, and now taxpayers are on the hook for half a billion dollars.
