I've been thinking about Trump and the Nobel.
It's assumed he was counting on a Korean peace agreement to self nominate his name to the commission. It's also easy to assume he needs it so desperately because Obama got one. Trump's strategy has always been getting his base involved to add pressure to any end. He needs that apparent groundswell of support to properly promote himself for the prize.
Then I remembered where the promotion really started. I first heard of it from the Cleveland rally he staged the night of the Correspondents Dinner. During that speech the crowd began what appeared as a spontaneous chant of "No-bel, No-bel". What a coincidence his Teabag and Freepwad audience should pick that night at that moment to shower the president with pending fame and fortune. As if on cue.
After some thought, I figure that, in true showman style, Trump salted the crowd with barkers and staffers to begin the chant. He was notably ready with what was for him, a humble grin and a quip about how "some people are saying that". As if from a script.
The president is done producing his old reality show, he's now living in one, and we're all impromptu extras trapped on the set of the blockbuster debut season. However, like on every TV show that Donald Trump uses as a valued source for running the country, ratings are everything. Let's hope he gets cancelled. Alternately, maybe if they gave him a the EGOT for lead role in a disaster epic he'll move on to retirement.
