There has been, on average, 1 incident of a firearm discharged at school every week this year

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/03/02/us/school-shootings-2018-list-trnd/index.html

There has been, on average, 1 school shooting every week this year

The parameters CNN followed in this count are:

A shooting that involved at least one person being shot (not including the shooter)

A shooting that occurred on school grounds

We included grades K through college/university level

We included gang violence, fights and domestic violence

We included accidental discharge of a firearm as long as the first two parameters are met

Blegh. Their sorting process is shit. Only four of those are "School shootings." Decoy of Fenris May 2018 #1

"Shot with BB gun" and "Idiot shoots himself in foot near parking lot of school" are not school shootings. Intellectually dishonest drivel.

But hey, "One shooting a week" sure leads a hell of a lot better than "One shooting a month", don't you think? Who cares if you have to lie a bit, so long as you get those clicks (not directed at you OP, directed at dishonest journalists.) ~.~

I'm just getting sick of this perpetually outraged clickbait media (on both sides of the aisle) manipulating data to present a skewed view. Fox does it, CNN does it, everybody bloody does it. What happened to just flat out reporting the issue? It isn't enough that we've had shots fired at schools, no, we've got to have CNN editorializing to get the most sensational headline they can with the data given.

It's frustrating trying to sort through the bullshit every damn day. ~.~
