FOX viewers overwhelmingly support Donald Trump. They do not see FOX as part of the "mainstream media" that is criticized so severely by the right-wing. They are fed a selective diet. It took them over a year to even mention the Russian interference in our election, except in a joking and ridiculing way. Most of their viewers still do not believe there is anything to the story.
Viewers cannot know what they have not been shown or told. Most Americans, even those that watch MSNBC and CNN, are aware of what FOX is reporting. The same cannot be said of FOX viewers. They are not aware of the different facts that are reported on other networks. They are loyal to FOX. They are in the "FOX Box". They have consciously made that decision.
But, therein, lies the problem. These people are willing accomplices in the destruction of our democracy. They believe they "are shaking up Washington" because that is what they have been told in their "Box". "Don't worry, Be happy" could be their motto.
FOX News propaganda is a big threat to us all. What are their motivations? Do they even know? Or do they truly believe that the "truth" is whatever is the opposite of what is being reported everywhere else? "Fair and Balanced" should not include lies and withholding of facts just to present a different viewpoint.
Nobody has the solution. People cannot be forced to look for more information and more facts. If they choose to believe the meager facts that they are fed, there is not much anyone can do? The "FOX Box" is a problem for all of America, not just the ones that choose to ignore the world around them.

(10,624 posts)Most of *us* seek out opinions that differ from our own, if only to try and understand what our opponents are thinking.
These people are content to cocoon themselves in a world without any intellectual challenges.
Deep down, they know their beliefs don't hold up to rigorous analysis - so they simply avoid it.
