GOP Gov Schools Romney On Wind: ‘Get Out Here In The Real World To Find Out What’s Really Going On

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad had harsh words for Romney’s anti-wind position, which would affect the state’s 7,000 wind jobs:

“It needs to be continued, not forever, but it does need to be continued for a while and the result is it’s been a very good thing for Iowa in terms of 20 percent of our energy is now generated by wind,” Branstad said.

“We have a lot of farmers that receive rent from having wind turbines on their property and we have a lot of jobs associated with it.” [...]

Branstad blamed “confusion” in the Romney campaign for Romney’s stand against the tax break for wind energy production. [...]

“They don’t understand,” Branstad said. “You’ve got a bunch of people that have put that website together that are bunch of east coast people that need to get out here in the real world to find out what’s really going on.”

In business and get off the grid. The construction, transportation and erection of the towers also provides much needed work for people in areas far away from employment. Someone here suggested that Iowa would not care for this. Thanks for posting!

and go to Fredericksburg (Texas) a couple time a year. Every trip shows more and more turbines popping up on land leased from landowners. People in the rural areas really seem to like them.

That were unincorporated farming areas and a good deal of the way towards Kerrville and then to El Paso. A lot of the mesas had them with nothing around but the lines to take the power. Since they were elevated naturally above the rest of the land, and weren't useful otherwise, it was a good plan.

I wish they'd get back to the old style windmills for water too. But I know they're a lot of upkeep, and they're more primitive. It's not impossible to get people to work on them, but it is sort of a lost art in most places. They're better pulling up ground water slow enough to let it replenish, but need maintenance. And they have to be disconnected by hand when the wind is too high or the temperature is going below freezing.

The turbines don't need that as they are set to turn themselves off if the wind's too fast. I know one day that oil subsidies for the giants who no longer need them, which Obama has been trying to do, spoke out against and had teabaggers elected to stop him, will finally faze out. It'll bea matter of diminishing returns. We should keep reserves, IMO. Oil and gas have been reliable in all conditions, but should be used as standby.

We can get away from this. West TX and eastern NM are currently exploiting their oil reserves as other parts of the country are doing now. This should work out.

I would love to hear that once a day, and twice on Sundays, between now and November 6.

Promise, promises, when will Romney ever learn? He can't tick off big oil, we all know that, but he has to come up with something to cut or else his so called "plan" to cut the deficit isn't going to be believe when the "math" just doesn't work.

I wonder how many more republicans he can piss off by try to cut something they actually "like" that president Obama has done for them?

Romney has to learn that you can't please everyone, and when you keep on making promises you just can't keep, your bound to be in trouble with someone!

He is someone that doesn't give one fucking shit about The People and will make sure to destroy everything The People have. Because he lives so far out of the box that normal people are forced to live in day in and day out. He is like an alien landing on Earth and having no idea what to do first, but decides to destroy everything just on impulse.
