So The Dopey Argument Is Don't Pick On The Poor Kid And
He Won't Shoot You, Has Got To Be The Stupidest Argument Ever.

(51,430 posts)WHY? Haven't they had all the advantages? What are they so angry about? They got their candidate in the white house and they have taken over most of the govt. What more do they want?

Anyway, I believe this incel business is just a symptom of a larger 'problem': white males losing their dominance in a progressive society. There is no coping mechanism. This has been slowly happening for decades, but it has be suppressed...until now. The Rump's attacks on all forms of social justice emboldens them, while the strong backlash against the Rump causes them untold anxiety.

(9,527 posts)Per Bureau of Justice Statistics, blacks committed a majority of the homicides in the country (and yes were also the majority of victims of homicide), it's hard to claim that there isn't a history of black men shooting in this country. Yes that's heavily linked to rates of poverty and our societal abandonment of poor and minority communities, but that doesn't mean there isn't a problem with gun violence in the black community, it's just that it isn't being done at schools.

As for women, our society conditions women differently that we condition men. We don't condition women to lash out in physical fashion, but also we make it more okay for women to be get emotional health.
Given the rate of suicide among gay men and teens, I think you have a hard time claiming there isn't a gun problem there, just turned on the individual. Again, just because it isn't a mass shooting, doesn't mean the impact isn't there.

People commit gun violence for all sorts of reasons (and yes I consider suicide a form of gun violence) and against all sorts of targets. Yes some do it because they are bullied, some do it out of poverty, some out of desperation. But sure, not all those who are bullied commit gun violence, but likewise not everybody who is gay tries to commit suicide, and not every black person who grew up poor is a criminal. But we as a society should certainly do more on all of those fronts because some percentage will respond to hard circumstances with poor choices.
But you also over estimate these mass shootings in terms of a percentage of gun violence. So far in 2018 there have been about 5,500 gun related deaths in the U.S. There have been 102 people killed in mass shootings. The site I link to below says that suicides aren't included in their count, meaning mass shootings in 2018 so far have accounted for about 1.2% of gun deaths by violence in the U.S. It's hard to take such a small sample size as representative of the whole of gun violence in the U.S.

(14,249 posts)Nice statistics, but irrelevant to the the OPs point.
For example, you cite BJS statistics about homicide rates by race, but the OP isnt about homicides as a whole. Its about mass shootings. You oddly extrapolate the BS statistics about homicides committed by black people (not just black men) to black men shooting people and claim the OP suggested there is no history of black men shooting when they said nothing of the kind.
The bottom line is that mass shootings in this country are overwhelmingly committed by white men. Period.
Im not sure why youre so invested in pushing back on efforts to shine a light on bad behavior by white people, but whether youll ever admit it or not, you know as well as I do that if roles were flipped and black men were shooting up schools and concerts and movie theaters and churches as regularly as white men are, this country would be having an entirely different conversation.

(22,336 posts)other than being white, male, and straight, that is all we would be talking about.
Even just one of those things. Imagine if all but a couple of mass shooters were all gay. Would we be talking about anything else? How would that be used against LGBT people? Imagine if all but a couple of mass shooters were black. Imagine what consequences there would be. And now, imagine if almost all mass shooters had three things in common - like gay, Mexican-American, and female. We'd consider it to be an amazing coincidence. Even if almost every mass shooter was a woman, and even though women make up half the country, we'd still be astounded by that coincidence, and it's still all we would be talking about.

(14,491 posts)He was the bully. He was stalking and harassing the girl that rejected him for months. She kept telling him no and to leave her alone. She finally had enough and stood up to him. Her best friend was the killers ex-girlfriend. She was also shot. The art class was targeted because he knew they would be in there. The girl he was harassing was his 2nd victim.
