DeVos Demands Taxpayer Money For Religious Schools

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2018/05/devos-demands-taxpayer-money-for-religious-schools/

The fact that DeVos wants to destabilize public schools while shifting taxpayer money to religious schools is not a surprise. In fact, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos is a radical Christian extremist who wants to use American schools to “advance God’s kingdom.”

I was a kid in elementary school when prayer was eliminated in public schools. If anyone wants to send their kids to private schools, where religious education is part of the curriculum, they're free to, but it's not up to the taxpayers to subsidize it.

And shouldn't Betsy DeVos be expected to know that obvious fact?? I swear that anyone on DU would do a better job than any of Trump's clueless picks!

'Prayer' was never eliminated in public schools.

Officially proscribed or led prayer was.

A recent SCOTUS case on point is
Santa Fe Independent School District v. Doe (1995)

My daughter, a public school teacher, has to spend lots of her own money every year to buy essentials for her classes. What the hell is wrong with these people?

...but let's not also pretend that on this particular issue that there's miles of daylight between her position and Arne Duncan's and President Obama's.

Both were and are for "school choice", charter schools and "vouchers" which are pretty much tantamount to allowing private and religious schools to access and siphon money from public education.

There are plenty of issues where there is Grand Canyon sized chasms between the Obama admin's positions and Trump's. But public education is not one of them.

Because through some infernal alchemy federal dollars spent on women's health might somehow be spent on abortion.
