"A generation of kids with an inability to cope with anything."
PATRICK SMITH MAY 21, 2018, 6:54 PM
Days after a school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas claimed the lives of eight students and two teachers, NRATV released a video claiming mass shooters are a creation of our so-called progressive culture and media.
In the video, host Colion Noir criticizes media coverage for supposedly turning mass shooters into inspiration for other would-be shooters to turn guns on their classmates.
Noir also claims in the video that progressives have confused children with safe spaces and participation trophies, and by telling young boys that their masculinity is toxic.
The result, Noir says, has created a generation of kids with an inability to cope with anything.

(118,039 posts)And here's an anxiety they try to create: Be insecure about your masculinity, because society doesn't value it!
And here's the commodity-fetish solution: Get a gun! If that doesn't work, get another one! Rinse and repeat!

(13,081 posts)What we oppose is toxic masculinity. Its ironic that people hear the phrase toxic masculinity and are so insecure in their masculinity that they think people are talking about them. That insecurity in their own masculinity is one of the defining characteristics of when masculinity becomes toxic.
Barack Obama is pretty darn masculine, but theres nothing toxic about his masculinity. Hes not insecure.
Sometimes not all the time, or even much of the time, but occasionally I feel sorry for these sorts of people. What must it be like to live every day in absolute fear? Or to be so insecure that youre still (decades after middle school) worried constantly about other peoples opinion of you? To have such little self-esteem and low self worth?
People with high self-esteem and a reasonable amount of confidence dont hate GLBTQ people, or are afraid of immigrants, or beat & belittle their kids, or are clearly bothered by women in positions of power, or a million other things.
The great educator, Paolo Freire, observed that oppression is just as bad for the oppressor as it is for the oppressed; the oppressors simply dont suffer as much as their victims.
(If yall dont know about Paolo Freire, google him. An amazing, brilliant, humble man who stood up to a right wing military dictatorship and almost singlehandedly taught an entire nation to read)
