Man keeps shouting ‘b*tch f*cking n****r’ after ramming woman’s car in racist rampage at high school

Bob Brigham

Police in Illinois arrested a Galesburg man on two felony counts of hate crimes after allegedly engaging in a racist tirade while ramming a car in a drop-off zone at the local high school, The Register-Mail reports.

In addition to the felony charges, the Knox County State’s Attorney also charged Bradley J. Qualls, 37, with misdemeanor criminal damage to property, misdemeanor reckless driving and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

The incident reportedly occurred at Galesburg High School at 7:39 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Qualls allegedly struck the woman’s vehicle with his car and threatened her by saying “I am going to beat your *ss you n****r b*tch.”

An off-duty Galesburg Police officer dropping off a student at the school reported hearing Qualls, who is white, yelling at a black woman.

The office heard Qualls shouted “b*tch f*cking n****r” at least three times.

"White people in North America live in a social environment that protects and insulates them from race-based stress. This insulated environment of racial protection builds white expectations for racial comfort while at the same time lowering the ability to tolerate racial stress, leading to what I refer to as White Fragility. White Fragility is a state in which even a minimum amount of racial stress becomes intolerable, triggering a range of defensive moves. These moves include the outward display of emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and behaviors such as argumentation, silence, and leaving the stress-inducing situation. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium."

2. Canvassing while black in Clayton

A black candidate for the Clayton Public Schools District school board was stopped by the local police while canvassing for his campaign — twice.

Jason Wilson is an African-American parent in the Clayton district who owns an artisan coffee roasting company, Northwest Coffee. Wilson was inspired to run for the school board by his mother, who was an educator in St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) for 41 years.

“She has a commitment to making sure the kids in SLPS, and kids in general, had a voice,” Wilson said.

Another reason for his run was his oldest son, who first encountered racism from a Clayton classmate in the early years of elementary school. Wilson said making sure students were educated about diversity and cultural sensitivity was one of the important issues to his campaign.

However, when Wilson started going door-to-door canvassing for his campaign, he discovered quickly that children may not be the only Clayton residents who need more education.

Approximately three weeks ago, Wilson said he was stopped in the street while canvassing to talk to a pedestrian, a woman he had met previously. He then stopped at a previous board member’s house, where he went inside to talk for about 25 minutes.

When Wilson left the house, he found that police had been called and were waiting for him. They assumed he was a door-to-door solicitor and told him that was not allowed.

“I was like, ‘I’m allowed to do this, I’m out here canvassing for the Board of Education in Clayton,’” Wilson said. “It’s those types of assumptions that frustrate me, right?”

Black people in America have had to justify our existence in places we’ve had the right to be simply because others rejected us.

By Taryn Finley

Waiting for a meeting at Starbucks. Golfing. Barbecuing. Checking out of an Airbnb. Napping in a common area of our dorms. Moving into our own homes.

These are just a few of the everyday activities that black people in America do not have the luxury of doing without being perceived as a criminal, recent headlines prove. We want to hear your stories of driving while black, walking while black, partying while black, etc., through our project “____ While Black.”

Stories of people calling the police on black people for just being in white spaces have increasingly dominated the news cycle and reminded us of the stereotypes and implicit bias that society projects onto black skin.

Though these stories have caught nationwide attention, they are by no means a new phenomenon. Dating back to before Jim Crow, many black people in America have had to justify our existence in places we’ve had the right to be simply because others rejected our presence.

According to a 2015 Reuters poll, only 30 percent of black Americans “trust the police to be fair and just” compared to 54 percent of all Americans. An overwhelming 69 percent of black Americans agreed that police “tend to unfairly target minorities” while only 29 percent of white people agreed. These attitudes are no surprise given that black people made up 24 percent of all police killings in 2015 despite being just 13 percent of the population.

Meanwhile, those who call the police on black people face no legal repercussions and ignore the fact that their irresponsible report can quickly turn deadly. John Crawford III, 22, and Tamir Rice, 12, are examples of this.

The Professor, the Cop, and the President

Sept. 21 2016 5:44 PM
By Jamelle Bouie

Two weeks after Crowley arrested Gates, the two met with Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in a “beer summit” in a courtyard near the Rose Garden. The meeting, according to Gates, was amicable. “We hit it off right from the very beginning,” Gates said in an interview with the New York Times. “When he’s not arresting you, Sergeant Crowley is a really likable guy.”

Gates and Crowley came to an understanding. There wasn’t such a clean wrap for President Obama. His comments on Gates’ arrest, and the backlash from police and their political allies, marked the start of a long slide in public opinion. But this wasn’t a general decline. No, the Gates arrest was the first major blow to Obama’s standing with white Americans.

Before Obama’s comments, 53 percent of whites approved of his job performance, according to the Pew Research Center. After, this slipped to 46 percent. Forty-five percent of whites surveyed disapproved of how Obama handled the situation. Gallup polling, likewise, shows a significant decline in white support for Obama, beginning in this period. In fact, Obama would never be as popular with white voters as he was just before the Gates affair. On the eve of Gates’ arrest, according to Gallup, 51 percent of whites approved of Obama. Afterward, that fell to 46 percent. Today, just 40 percent of whites approve of the president, even as his overall job approval pushes past 50 percent.

Now, these polls were compounded by external conditions. The economy was still struggling from the shock of the Great Recession, the president’s health care bill was sharply divisive, and the public was fatigued by battles in Congress between the Democratic majority and an implacable Republican minority. But the picture is clear: When Obama spoke out about Gates, white Americans began to tune him out.

I saw it on Totally Biased, 'A Cranky Moment with Dwayne Kennedy' where he talked about two separate incidents of black people being detained because, after making purchases, the clerks called the police because they didn't think the buyers could afford what they bought
One of the things he mentioned was the cop asked the woman what she was doing in Manhattan?
