WTF - Ram's stadium cost 4 Billion+

stadium project always had big expectations. It was designed to be an enormous complex, designed to be an entertainment district as well as host big events like Super Bowls.

The extra costs, in part, come from ensuring the stadium can withstand an earthquake, SBJ reported. There have also been other costs like access roads and utilities that are adding to the price tag.

That $4.25 billion figure doesn’t even include the entire complex. It does include a 6,000-seat amphitheater, SBJ said, but not retail space and commercial development or a new NFL Network headquarters. When all that is included, the total project cost could exceed $5 billion, Sports Business Journal said.

Considering its location it will probably be used multiple times a week for some kind of event.

At least the owner went in big.

6. Nothing mentioned but seems it's all private investment

SBJ broke down the investment in the stadium as $2.25 billion for various banks, $1.6 billion for Kroenke and $400 million from the NFL’s stadium financing fund.

It's a little hinky, but it looks like the private investors are loaning the city of Inglewood the money to do the public improvements, but the city doesn't pay it back until the stadium starts bringing in revenue.

I'm not an accountant, nor do I play one on television so I can't figure out if the sweethearts deal between the developers and the city of Inglewood is on the level.

...why the NFL was out of the LA Market for so long.

They basically said, to use the Coliseum or Rose Bowl, don't want to? Build your own damn stadium. After the naked greed of Al Davis and the Raiders...and they way the Rams left, it left a very bad taste on everyone's mouths.

And of course, the NFL wasn't going to let that happen, because if they did, their negotiating capabilities in other cities fall flat. "Why should we use tax payer money to subsidize the cost of building a stadium? LA didn't have to!"

Plus in the LA Market (including Anaheim), you have two Hockey Teams, Two Baseball Teams, Two PAC-12 Teams, a MLS Team and Two Basketball Teams. The it wasn't like the area was starving for another sports team.

I doubt we can even support two NFL teams. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chargers go limping back. The Rams still had a fan base here, the Chargers never did.

11. L.A.'s westside is already completely overdeveloped, it's a traffic nightmare.

Which is why I moved out of the city six years ago, after living there since birth.

The whole Marina del Rey-Playa Vista-Torrance-Carson area (where the new stadium complex will be located) is now choked with vertical office space, and the traffic is a living nightmare— the freeways and surface streets choked with cars, trucks, vans, you-name-it, nearly all hours of the day.

When the stadium project is finally completed, Sundays will also be commuter hell, what with two NFL team occupants. Living in such density is not for the faint-hearted. It’s like doing battle every day. You cannot so much as make a run to the dry cleaners without planning your route and watching the time. It can take as long as 90 minutes to creep about three miles in bumper-to-bumper traffic. It finally wore me down, so I got out, and haven’t looked back since.
