Trump is speaking at a pro-life rally. It is absolutely appalling how disgraceful he is he is reading the speech written by someone else with zero sincerity. His arrogance and indifference to the audience is even more disgusting than usual. Hes reading the speech, which was focused on AS USUAL HIS ELECTION AND HOW AMAZING IT WAS adding obscenities here and there he actually said about one of the lines in the speech, who in the hell wrote that?
Yet these people voted for him...now hes saying vote for love in 2018. Snort.

(63,221 posts)He even wanted his own WIFE, Marla, to abort Tiffany. How dare he call himself "pro-life"!

(17,984 posts)He accepted Jaybus as his savior...and Cohen...and Gulliani...and...
So the question is, How fast will he ditch Jaybus when that doesn't work out for him? I think if Sean told him that if he ate babies to satisfy the dark lord and he would be rescued, he would do it. On top of which, there would be plenty of trumpanzees waiting in line to serve him their babies.

(63,221 posts)He has seen the light. All his sins have been cleansed. I swear, right-wing evangelicals have to be one of the stupidest, most gullible demographics out there. It's almost funny how easily they are duped by any con-man with a schtick.

(6,145 posts)I doubt that you know everyone in the Republican party, or what they believe. But there are Republicans who are "pro-life" in that they are against abortion, war, guns, the death penalty, etc. People who take in foster children and adopt. People who have big, generous hearts, and just believe that every fetus deserves a chance at life. Some people are so completely against abortion that they cannot be Democrats. And that's the only reason. Some people are so completely against abortion that they support Republican candidates who promise to vote "pro-life" even if there's nothing else that's good about them.
Abortion is an amazingly polarizing issue. I've had two of them, and I know there are people who don't respect me just because of this, without knowing anything else about me.
I am vehemently pro-abortion. I think abortion should be mandatory for anyone under 16. Not a choice. Not for a 12 year old. Not for a 10 year old. Nope. Abortion.
So, for some reason, I understand that some people are completely on the other side. That it goes super deep, in the gut, and nothing would ever change their view. It's not that abortion is a crime. It's not that they want the woman locked up. But I think they believe it is a mortal sin, and if they can convince a woman not to abort, they are saving two souls.
You can call that "anti-choice", but I think you miss the love for life that these people have that makes them believe that abortion is wrong.
When I retire, I hope to be an abortion advocate, protecting women at clinics, and helping make sure that they can deal with the negativity that is involved with their choice. For now, I donate and keep my ear to the ground politically.
But I catch more flies with honey than vinegar. It is because I have had abortions that I dare to have meaningful conversations with pro-life individuals. If I can help them be pro-life and pro-choice at the same time, I think I have won a great battle.

(16,071 posts)are few and far between.
I know one person like you describe and she understands that sometimes, despite all she wishes that it were not so, that abortion is necessary.
The rest of the anti-choicers I know and am related to, believe that abortion is evil but the death penalty and war are great.

They are not "pro-life" -- all they want to do is control a woman's body.
Those people are so single issue, they don't want to consider that there are gray areas in their black and white world.
When you ask them if they should prosecute women who have abortion for murder, they go silent. Because if they agree to that, they'll be exposed for the heartless ghouls that they are. If they say no, then their whole anti-abortion argument falls apart.
Don't give those people a benefit of the doubt.

(6,145 posts)Not every single one of these people is as you say. Maybe you would call them "pro-life with caveats". But they are more comfortable with the pro-life label.
