General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThanks Hillary, for choosing Stacey Abrams to speak first night of the Democratic Convention
...giving her visibility and a leg up.
Abrams:
"I'm here today as part of a new American majority, one that has the courage to work together rather than tear our nation apart. We are the architects of solutions to help families raise healthy children and make a living wage rather than crippling our economic future and pushing dangerous policies that deny Medicaid expansion and reproductive choice. We fight for more because that is who we are."

(68,485 posts)know what I would do! I used to live in Georgia...I left eleven years ago or so...so maybe it has changed enough.
If you don't think Stacey Abrams can win the general, it's because you doubt that everyone who would vote for her will. Ask yourself why that is, and then ask yourself what can be done about it. Politics is freeform. Anyone can win if enough people vote. Tick tock.

(8,138 posts)"you doubt that everyone who could vote for her will.
"Ask yourself why that is":
50,000 more people voted for Gov in the Repub primary than in the Dem primary, so we've got our work cut out for us.
Some say that Stacey Evans would have had a better shot in the G.E. We'll never know.

(68,485 posts)voters? I am asking can any Democrat win there?
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Yes. I'd forgotten about that. Bet Hillary wished she could endorse and campaign for her this year. Time's coming.
We early voted for Rep. Abrams for Governor. Wouldn't that be something! But all we've made history together already.

(58,785 posts)quietly endorsed her, but a robocall targeted to avoid stirring up hornets is campaigning. I was wrong.
I look forward to the day when Hillary once again stands on many stages alongside candidates.
Kick this back to the first page!

(58,785 posts)Introducing new leaders to the nation and bringing them along is what her speech at our 2016 Democratic Party convention was about, and here she is!
Btw, I didn't realize when I voted for her that she was the first black woman who's run for governor in the entire nation. Good grief! And it's not just Democrats, but Georgia Democrats leading the way. Not actually so strange when you think about it.

(34,163 posts)I'll just say that my demographic is straight, white, married male with 1 or 2 kids. Although I'm a consistent Democratic voter who is liberal on most issues, libertarian on some, and even a little conservative on a few issues, I am a part of the white swing voter contingent that Phillips says to forget.
This might be a great strategy for Georgia. I think HRC followed the same strategy in 2016 and it failed only because of predominantly white rust belt area states weren't feeling her and Russian/FBI influence swung enough over to Trump. Maybe the pool of white swing voters is not as important in Georgia as it is in our electorial college.
I'm not going to get into anything more specific. Let's hope it works.

(217 posts)I am sorry to hear that, but I certainly get there is that element out there. Go Abrams. I am confident she will be looking out for you, too.
