They cave to pressure from the right and institute a new rule fining teams for players kneeling during the anthem, but in an olive branch to the players are not forcing them to stand on the sideline during the anthem. Obviously leaving the door open for protests to continue by players not participating in the anthem ceremonies.
But where they are so stupid, and I cant believe they don't see this coming, Trump and his minions will just move from demanding players stand during the anthem to being on the field during the anthem. Does the NFL really think that this is going to end the controversy? Ok I get it, it not right out in the open for all to see, but I can totally see them having another rule change in a year to appease Trump and his bootlickers on the right who will say you're disrespecting the flag and troops by not being on the field for the anthem.

(488 posts)I wish every player would take a knee or raise a clinched fist in protest. I am tired of 35% of our public having so much influence. If you can not see that people of color or treated differently by our criminal justice system you are a blind bigot!

How damn patriotic is that? I have not seen that mentioned in all this talk about the NFL players not bending to trump's fucking will.

If it's not challenged in the Supreme Court, or is upheld, then Trump will use that to declare a victory, to rally his base.
