How high did the price of gas go during the Bush administration?

The price of gas is rising here in Kansas City,as Trump's sanctions reduce availability of Iran's oil.

I remember gas prices going through the roof during Bush's maladministration. How high did they actually go?

Still rising here, too. Currently at about $3.09/gallon.

I fear what it will be in the summer when gas prices traditionally go up for the driving season.

Stamford, Greenwich, Norwalk, Connecticut. Won't surprise me to see it hitting that $3.89 within the next couple of weeks.

But I found a website which compiled the information for average gas prices:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/204740/retail-price-of-gasoline-in-the-united-states-since-1990/

In my area (southeastern part of virginia), it is currently at 2.79 per gallon for the regular

5. According to GasBuddy's 10 year chart, the local average for regular got as high as $4.71.

Which means that there was regular unleaded gas selling for over $5 a gallon in the more expensive locations (typically rural) in the county at that time.
Remember, San Diego County is larger or at least almost as large in area as the five smallest states in the U.S, and in population density, larger than almost a quarter of the states.
Lots of cars, lots of gas stations.

Of course, even ten years ago, a reduction down to $5 would have been a dream here, so it's all relative. $7 to $8 is the norm.

Mid July 2008, I paid 4.099/gal. Highest in 2011 was 3.809 (in May); highest in 2014 was $3.549 (in June) but that was probably somewhere closer to Lake of the Ozarks, not metro KC. The $3.809 in 2011 was the highest post-Bush price.
