I think those that support him have to go through a self annihilation process. Shred every sense of decency and morality they usually set for anyone they meet or support. Convince themselves that they can't be wrong about him. That he's some kind of diamond in the rough. That he'll prove everybody wrong and eventually they will be vindicated.

But it's a fact that he's only in office by dint of massive white support. I'm just wondering where that support stands two years after the election.

Ya know, to check against the baseline.

And let’s not forget that their are more white people in this country than everyone one else, and a significant portion of them were radicalized by Trump’s racist rhetoric.

Those margins were slim only because every one else came out against him.

It was quite clear that it was up to everyone else, including those whites who voted against him, to save America from post-Obama Trump’s whitelash.

The whitelash came out on top, in spite of the number of personal anecdotes of whites voting against Trump that people are responding with.

All I’m wondering is how much of his white base is sticking with him two years later.

National polls are useless if they are weighted heavily by populous Democratic strongholds that we're not even remotely worried about losing.

If 90% of Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, etc. loath Trump, where does this leave us in 2018?

However, I also need to point out that those non-Democratic areas that we need to flip are mostly white and not very racially diverse.

It’s the Trump votes in those areas that I’m worried about.

Intense dislike will not work with all (see Conor Lamb, Doug Jones).

That's not to say it won't motivate some though. Motivates me!

So we do what we need to...traditionally mid-terms are a referendum on the president. And Trump is an awful president. Why would you argue with success (the GOP ran against Obama and had great success) and reference Kennedy who was elected almost 60 years ago and Roosevelt who was elected almost 90 years ago? Neither are relevant in today's world.
