(268,913 posts)Showers in some places but nothing like the amount of rain in Cuba and the Cayman islands.
Word is that the Keys will also be at the receiving end of heavy rain.

(60,010 posts)Where i live, we have often gotten thru Tropical storms with barely a gust.
This one looks to be more on direct track, but our house/area of town has zero flood issues.

(268,913 posts)North Western and Central Cuba have been inundated as heavy rain has been falling for several days.
Truth is that the rain can be good and bad - but that's life.

(268,913 posts)and St Elizabeth had some flooding but I haven't heard any reports of flooding this week. This is the main rainy season for the Western Caribbean. The problem is that climate change now means that we are all facing record-breaking amounts of rain in a few hours. How do any of these societies handle two day rain amounts in three or four hours.

(5,810 posts)Are for rain and lots of it. The timing on this thing has jumped around from tomorrow to Late Monday. Now they are back to telling us probably starting later tomorrow. They have mildly suggested it might get to minimal Hurricane strength but I think are holding off a bit so as not to overly alarm people. Then if it fails to materialize they risk people not listening the next time. So they are being cautious about the strength part. The rain part is the main focus. That and flash floods on grounds that are already wet. Thankfully, our house is on a hill. As I told a friend....if it floods at my house, I will order an ark using Amazon Prime. LOL

(5,810 posts)Ive lived on the Gulf Coast since I was 16. If there is anything Ive Learned, it is that you never assume the storm will do exactly as forecast. These things shift, change, morph and move around by the forces pushing and pulling them and making them weaker or stronger. Im no meteorologist, but you cant go through countless storms and not learn a few things. 1. If they say there will be storm surge, believe them. Cancel your beachside wedding. Move it indoors. 2. You can go to bed with a Cat. 2 storm and wake up to a Cat. 5. It happened right here in Pensacola in the 90s. 3. If you determine you should evacuate, leave early, dont wait. The longer you wait, the more likely You will be caught in massive gridlock and be out on the road when the storm hits. Not a good place to be. 😵
There are many more lessons (catch up on ALL of the laundry before the storm in case there is a power outage and you have no easy way to do laundry for days, maybe weeks) but these are enough. 🤪😉🤪🧐

(268,913 posts)The laundry problem can be a power outage or no water for days or weeks (Gilbert back in 1988). Get that laundry done before heading to purchase supplies - excellent advice.
