(2,809 posts)Having experienced a hair raising vehicular assault about a year ago, empowered Trumpers in a huge pick'emup truck were following me an inch from my bumper till I exited the freeway, I'm presuming they were reacting to my "Love conquers Hate" with equality sign sticker in my back window, the passenger shouted "f'n faggot" at me as they sped on. I was soooo wishing for a highway patrolman had witnessed that. Their "MAGA" sticker on their back window just iced that crap cake.

(2,161 posts)But maybe we need to do dangerous things in this day and age.
If we keep our eyes lowered, we let the fascists control the landscape. People in the middle (and on our side!) will think that right-wingers are the majority, and that they themselves are out of step with America. We need to let people know that they are not alone.
In the 60s, people performed much greater acts of resistance with far greater consequences. I think (and am speaking only for myself here) that I need to be more vocal and visible. If it leads to my car being keyed or a physical confrontation, so be it. Posting here on DU is all well and good, but Im beginning to think that Im just singing with the choir. I need to be more open and confrontational. Not everyone can do this, and thats okay. We all do what we can.
Im starting with Facebook; Ive been slowly posting some anti-Trump stuff with some push back (and some support from unlikely places). Now Im going to post a vehement in-your-face post about Trumps disgusting policies and incompetence regarding migrant children. I hope I truly piss some people off. I admit that Im a little worried about this one local right-wing cop on my feed, but oh well...
I spent 20 years in the Navy defending my country, and Im now realizing that just because Im out of the service doesnt mean that my work is done.

(6,831 posts)Taking off the uniform did not abrogate my responsibility to uphold and defend The Constitution. You can take the Sailor out of the NAVY, but you cannot take the NAVY out of the Sailor, even after retirement.
Honor, courage, commitment - that is the NAVY creed.

(81,194 posts)That's a GREAT one! It rolls off the tongue VERY nicely. Short 'n' sweet, good imagery, excellent messaging. Now, it needs to be repeated. And repeated. At least THREE times, if not more.
And did I say - it needs to be repeated?
YES. It needs to be repeated. And repeated some more. The more often, the better to drill it down in, so it imbeds.
