Obviously some accommodation must be made for minors, children, even infants, without guardians -- under virtually any conceivable immigration policy there will be some such kids. And yes, Obama's immigration policies led to many children in custody, and many falling through the cracks.

But the enthusiasm with which the Trump admin is expanding the scope of immigrant children in custody is grotesque. And the glee with which they declare separating children and parents will be a deterrent is an abomination. (BTW it won't, just like the death penalty isn't an effective homicide deterrent; also these people are so f-ing desperate they risk their own and their kids' lives to immigrate, separation is lower down the list of deterrent than death)

SAN ANTONIO — Numerous women detained at an immigrant jail in Karnes County allege staff there sexually assaulted or harassed them in front of their children.

Some of the women complained nearly a month ago, but the alleged perpetrators still were allowed to remain among the immigrants at the privately run 537-bed Karnes County Residential Center, lawyers for the detainees said Thursday.

The allegations were made to staff with the GEO Group, which operates the center, in early September by some detainees, most of whom are Central Americans sent with their children there after being caught crossing illegally at the Texas border, the lawyers said.

Between this and the pictures from yesterday of children being held in worse conditions than my dogs when I board them, in cages...I just can't imagine how we recover from this. What happened to those 1,500 children who are lost??

I get it that we wish these kids weren't in the situations they are in, but this is not a prison bus (no bars or grills across window) and we do have to transport toddlers and young children, car seats should be used.
