1. There's an old slogan in the disability rights movement--

"Nothing about us, without us."

It came out of people with disabilities having all their most intimate and important decisions about their (our) lives made by people who had no idea what it was like to live with a disability.

But it works as well for other oppressed groups.

"Representation matters."
