Let's celebrate Clint Eastwood's endorsement of Romney

Mitt Romney's bailout problem

by Jed Lewison

Mitt Romney isn't against all bailouts. He's only against some of them. And in fact, he's really only against one in particular:

Bailouts approved by Mitt Romney:............Bailouts opposed by Mitt Romney:
• Wall Street (2008)................................• American auto industry (2009)
• Salt Lake City Winter Olympics (2002)
• GS Tech, owned by Bain (2002)
• Bain & Co. Consulting (1993)

So when it came to bailing out Wall Street or his own enterprises, Romney was thumbs up. And when it came to taking tens of millions in public subsidies for companies in which he invested, Romney was thumbs up too.

Romney Campaign Lies Again: "The GM Bailout was Mitt's Idea"

by joelgp

No, you can't make this stuff up. Remember when Romney wrote this in the New York Times: "If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed."

Well, Obama gave them the money, restructured the company and they are the strongest car company in the world. So how does an Etcha-a-Sketch so-called business expert "un-say" something that was so obviously wrong?

YOU JUST LIE, and hope no one notices. Thehill.com notices:

"One of Mitt Romney's top advisers said Saturday that President Obama's decision to bailout Chrysler and General Motors was actually Romney's idea.

&quot Romney's) position on the bailout was exactly what President Obama followed. I know it infuriates them to hear that," Eric Fehrnstrom, senior adviser to the Romney campaign, said.

"The only economic success that President Obama has had is because he followed Mitt Romney's advice."

Wow!!

Karl Rove’s hissy fit: “Offended” by Chrysler ad

<...>

Karl Rove heard echoes of Obama’s rhetoric too, and implicit optimism about the direction of the country, and cried foul.

“I was, frankly, offended by it,” Rove said on Fox News Monday. “I’m a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, I thought it was an extremely well-done ad, but it is a sign of what happens when you have Chicago-style politics, and the president of the United States and his political minions are, in essence, using our tax dollars to buy corporate advertising.”

<...>

The flap over the ad confirms the GOP’s serious branding problem: The problem for Rove and the rest of the GOP is that their party’s narrative has become relentlessly negative, pessimistic and uninspiring. They’ve left the language of optimism and resilience, higher ground and common ground, to the Democrats, and lately President Obama has grabbed every opportunity to employ that language...the fact is the president saved the auto industry at a time when Republicans, most notably Mitt Romney, urged him to let it die. If he gets credit for that unpopular decision, that’s because he deserves it.

And who knows, maybe the naysayers would finally come around and say that standing by America's workers was the right thing to do. (Applause.) Because, I've got to admit, it's been funny to watch some of these folks completely try to rewrite history now that you're back on your feet. (Applause.) The same folks who said, if we went forward with our plan to rescue Detroit, "you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye." Now they're saying, we were right all along. (Laughter.)

<...>

Before the domestic auto rescue, President Obama made$5 billion in Federal loans available to small auto parts suppliers:

The Treasury Department announced a $5 billion program to aid struggling auto-parts suppliers, raising the likelihood the government will extend more aid to General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC.

What a lot of folks, including politicians, don't seem to realize is that GM and Chrysler merely ASSEMBLE cars. They don't make the parts.

<...>

Obama rescued the Domestic Auto Industry.

But BEFORE that. BEFORE that. BEFORE he sent the domestic auto industry into structuered bankruptcy, he made sure the LITTLE GUYS....the SMALL manufacturing companies that make SPRINGS or BOLTS or LATCHES or TINY WIDGETS were able to stay afloat so that when GM got back on its feet again it didn't have to look to CHINA or MEXICO to make those parts because the previous suppliers had gone belly up.

“These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage? I don’t give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of. They go on and on with all this bullshit about ‘sanctity’ — don’t give me that sanctity crap! Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want.”
That was less than one year ago. Now Clint endorses what he called crap, bullshit and he endorses a man who goes on and on about sanctity. What worth does a man's word have if he simply says that which he wants to say without any actual conviction? What sort of a person is willing to support attacks on a minority group over what he knows is bullshit? A terrible, greedy self promoter.

hypocrisy, Clint 'It's Bullshit And I Endorse It' Eastwood is not so fortunate. "They go on and on with all this bullshit about ‘sanctity’ — don’t give me that sanctity crap" He says his own choice goes on and on with 'all this bullshit' and he says he does not want it. Yet in the end, his 'support' is non existent, he said those things to sell tickets and to please Leonardo so he'd do press for him.
He's a nonthinking follower of the Party, but he's not 'just another' of them, he is one whose words are on record. He thinks Romney policy is crap, bullshit and yet he is willing to endorse that bullshit. He needs to be made to own that. He has made it easy to do.

When they say the opposite of what is really happening. I'm thinking Clint drank the kool-aid because of Reagan.

From the "The Hill"

Eastwood said he excepted to Romney to "restore, hopefully, a decent tax system that we need badly." The Hollywood icon said the country needed a system where "there's a fairness and people are not pitted against one another as to who's paying taxes and who isn't," a likely reference to Democrats who have called for the wealthiest of Americans to pay higher tax rates.

He needs to be called out and also educated in public.

One key question that should be asked of these people is "How much of your income is not taxed." Come on people. This is an important question that should be repeated over and over directly to those that complain about their taxes being too high. These are the same people that complain about 46% not paying taxes even though the average itemized deductions for those with income $200k or more is $64k. If they have that much or more income that is not taxed their taxes are not too high. It isn't high enough!

Clint is not likely to do his own taxes and because of that is clueless. Really no different than most Americans on how taxes are determined.

Another point that the President should make when he talks about rescinding the tax on the top 2% is make it clear that the extra tax is not on all of their income. And that they will continue to have income they have below $338k or whatever it becomes at the same rates as everyone else that are not rich.

President Obama mentioned this in his speech yesterday.

And keep in mind -- just one last point I want to make -- we're saying nobody's income taxes go up on the first $250,000 of their income. So even somebody who makes more than $250,000 is still getting a tax break on their first $250.000... Even somebody who's worth $200 million -- on that first $250,000 they're still paying lower taxes.

Heston pounced around from staunch civil rights supporter to odd conservative head of NRA. Eastwood has pounced around from ultra-Reagan conservative to Goldwater conservative for years. It is hard to believe they were/are politically naive since they both were so active in politics. In the end I don't know politically what you can say about either man because they are so politically inconsistent. Then again politically inconsistent sounds a lot like Etch A Sketch Mitt Romney
