Those two women have likely been together for years, more likely decades. But to be able to formalize the commitment that they long ago held in their hearts, warms my heart. It means that society finally recognizes their lifelong commitment in a way which hitherto has not happened.

How many years did these two worry about the legal status of when one gets sick whether the other would even have a say about care, comfort, etc.

It is a touching pic. Wonderfully touching.
