The Lawfare Blog has had excellent posts about NDAA

and they're very well-written and informative. The bad part? They're not pithy enough to post excerpts of on DU without feeling like I'm taking them out of context, so here are a couple links, arranged chronologically:

http://www.lawfareblog.com/2011/12/the-ndaa-the-good-the-bad-and-the-laws-of-war-part-i/

http://www.lawfareblog.com/2011/12/the-ndaa-the-good-the-bad-and-the-laws-of-war-part-ii/

http://www.lawfareblog.com/2012/01/in-praise-of-the-signing-statement/

The first two posts, but especially the second, goes pretty deep into the legal history and the theories surrounding the detention provisions.

Edited cuz I couldn't see the links.
