All the great progressive actors who have worked with
Eastwood should not let this go. This idiot is supporting a
candidate who allows racists, misogynists, and homophobes
to define his campaign. This is dangerous shit and Eastwood
should be called on this.......hard!

But why would he want to attach his name to a demonstrated IDIOT like the Mittwitt?

I'm just pissed that a guy who has made some incredible
films over the past 2 decades with many well known progressive
actors, could embrace hate and anger!

(20,729 posts)celeb endorsements are big big news, very very important.
MrSlayer
(22,143 posts)And if you don't, you should.
The "squeaky clean" Mormon endorsed by a porn star is a shiny object. The reason she gave is shinier still. Of course it's going to get attention.
A republican endorsing a republican, even one with Clint's legendary status, is not that sexy.
This doesn't matter. And trying to drum up a national protest of Clint Eastwood is not something I'm interested in doing. It would be counterproductive and ridiculous.

and neither of them got the attention a fucking porn star did.
MrSlayer
(22,143 posts)I'm completely ignorant of that. Unless you put a dupe in LBN I can't see why anyone would. There are always doubles and triples.
I explained why the porn star thing grabbed the attention.

(5,420 posts)I think when it comes to someone Big like Eastwood, we are all disgusted by this level of ignorance. The days of living side by side in peace with republicans stopped when they went into total asshat mode, willing to destroy the country, and the world to maintain power.
We no longer say hmmm. We say get out of the way stupid mother fuckers.
That last part is to the republicans, not you.
His name will be continually mentioned over the next couple of months.
His movies are embraced by many middle of the road types and his
endorsement for these types might tip them.

(9,494 posts)When he was the Mayor of Carmel he ran as a Republican and routinely endorses Libertarians. He hates paying taxes and doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself. He has always been this way. This is actually a tepid endorsement for Clint the Cheap to make!

(22,271 posts)since he was mayor of Carmel. Carmel used to be a BEAUTIFUL, quite, charming little seaside town. When he became mayor all of a sudden it was strip malls and McDonald's as far as the eye could see because he wanted to attract big money. Well he did and now it's barely distinguishable from any other seaside tourista trap.

(5,420 posts)discuss it yes. Plain and simple; Eastwood does not support the United States of America and it's peoples. This people, no longer supports him. And it does hurt because Eastwood is one of the last old greats. I will still be sorry when his leathered republican ass dies, but I have to remove my support from asshats.
Continuing to be a republican in this day and age, makes you an asshat in my book.
Goodbye Clint, old friend. Asshat.

(20,166 posts)The man has tilted right/libertarian for as long as I can recall.
I like some of his movies (not that many, but there are some); I don't like his politics and never have. That he endorses Romney, as incredibly stupid as I may think it is, is no surprise to me.
2pooped2pop
(5,420 posts)being a republican wasn't the same as it is now. To vote republican today you're either a fool or a traitor to this country. I didn't think he was either. To endorse Mittens was just a lame ass thing to do.
I would not want to go down in history as supporting the most destructive and dangerous threat to this world. He just did that. He may not live to another election to reverse it. He endorsed someone who will be the downfall of the country. I just thought he was a smart man.
deutsey
(20,166 posts)Some of them are great, but they all mostly have a very libertarian view of the world. Some, like the Dirty Harry ones, were actually right wing, imo.
The man has talent; there's no question about that. Both as an actor and a director. But beyond his art he's obviously an ideologue. It happens. I like Picasso's art...although I'm on the left, I don't endorse his Communist politics.
I agree that Eastwood is wrong here. Horribly wrong. I'm just not surprised that he made the endorsement.

What I saw in that post was someone who is passionate and pissed at Eastwood. Geez.. it's not like they're channeling a freeper. I guess the secret to DU is STILL to make your first 10k posts so bland that no one suspects you. Some DUers are the equivalent of "let me see your papers" to new people.
There was nothing wrong with that post. It's almost a sport among some DUers to see who can uncover a troll fastest. Makes DU look like a very unwelcoming place.

He treats the guests like shit if they have the audacity to say hello to him in passing, or if they wander into an area he deems to be off limits. (18,672 posts)Eastwood certainly has the right to "endorse" who he will. It won't stop me from watching his movies. Overall, he's a good guy. I just think he's misguided on this particular thing.

(10,611 posts)First you have the porn star endorsing Romney with "When you're rich, you want a Republican in office." So, RICH people want Republicans. What does that mean for the vast majority of other people?
Then Eastwood, with this "Looks like a president" stuff. That immediately invites comparisons between our current POTUS and Romney. Is that REALLY a good idea for Mittens?
